The Workroom Manager oversees all aspects of a team of skilled artisans in the costume department. Responsibilities include managing daily operations, collaborating with designers and vendors, creating cost estimates, ordering supplies, addressing cast issues, ensuring timely and high-quality production, and handling confidential information. The role requires experience in garment construction, alterations, leadership, and working with performers. This is a seasonal/casual temporary position with fluctuating hours based on business needs.
Must have:
  • 3+ years garment construction & alteration experience
  • 3+ years leading garment/costume fittings
  • Experience in theater, film, apparel, or manufacturing
  • Experience leading workflow and project budgets
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills
Good to have:
  • Experience using SAP, Maximo, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with a unionized cast
  • Experience with embroidery
  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, or Spanish

Job Summary:

The Workroom Manager leads all aspects of a diverse and dedicated cast of highly skilled artisans. This role leads the day-to-day operation of both people and processes with an eye toward teamwork, collaboration, and development.

This position reports to the Area Manager of Costume Production.

This is a Casual Temporary or Seasonal role with no guarantee of weekly working hours, as hours will fluctuate based on business needs.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee the workroom of operational costumes and facilitate alterations for entertainment and character costumes.

  • Handle confidential information pertaining to employees and intellectual property.

  • Partner with multiple collaborators to maintain product quality and designs.

  • Partner with Costumers, Buyers, Designers, & vendors.

  • Creating estimates for manufacturing costumes.

  • Forecast and order needed supplies, tools, and notions.

  • Responsible for ensuring that Cast issues are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that manufacturing is on time, on budget, and of the utmost quality.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years experience in garment construction, alterations, and patterning techniques

  • 3+ years experience leading garment/costume fittings

  • 1+ years experience in leadership

  • Experience in the theater, film, apparel, or manufacturing industry

  • Experience with performers in various stages of dress/undress

  • Experience with sewing terms, fabric types, and garment notions

  • Experience leading workflow and project budgets

  • Experience communicating (both verbal and written) with a variety of partners at all levels

  • Experience working in a team environment where collaboration is key

  • Experience in planning, problem-solving, conflict resolution, influencing, and negotiating

  • Experience with continuous improvement process

  • Ability to work around all types of fabrics, fibers, foams, and synthetic furs

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using SAP, Maximo, and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience working with a unionized cast

  • Experience working with embroidery

  • Proficient or fluent in Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, or Spanish

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required

  • Advanced degree in a Costuming, Textiles, or Apparel-related field is preferred
