Level Designer

Evening Star is seeking an Art Director to lead the art team for a new 3D game, leveraging their expertise in 3D art pipelines and managing remote and external artists. This role involves bringing games to life using a proprietary engine, overseeing art production, and maintaining high-quality standards. The company operates remotely with an option for LA-based employees to work in-office.

<h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Responsibilities</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Manage and lead the internal and external team of artists and maintain the art production with the project department leads</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Establish and maintain the art production pipelines, asset lists, and art delivery schedules</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Advocate for art production best-practices, and ensure high-quality standards and processes for each milestone deliverable</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Work in collaboration with the Principal Artist and Game Director to enforce the visual direction and brand of the game across internal and external teams</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Work with Tech Art, the Art Production Manager, and Engineering to establish asset pipelines and process with Evening Star's proprietary engine, the Retro Engine</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Conduct routine syncs with teams to ensure alignment across a globally remote team</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Manage effective, clear communication among team members and partners, not limited to documentation, feedback rounds, project directives, and problem solving</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Foster a collaborative spirit, working with departments and partners proactively and insightfully</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Work closely with the Art Production Manager and external partners to ensure on-time delivery of art assets</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Requirements</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">At least 5+ years of experience leading the production of stylized 3D game projects as an Art Director</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Highly organized and proven leadership with experience in managing teams of creatives and collaborating with other disciplines</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Deep knowledge of one or more industry standard software used in 3D asset creation (e.g. Blender, Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance Painter/Designer, etc.)</li><li class="leading-relaxed">A strong portfolio showcasing recent professional or personal work</li><li class="leading-relaxed">A deep understanding of 3D environment, 3D character, UI, and VFX art pipelines</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Expert knowledge of game development production pipelines</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Must be comfortable with GitHub, Perforce, or other comparable version control systems</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Pluses</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Experience working with mid-sized global game dev teams and outsourcing vendors</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Knowledge of Unity3D, Unreal, Godot, or other game engines</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Exercises sensibilities towards cohesive gameplay and player experience</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Proficiency in Japanese</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Evening Star Perks</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Remote working for all employees with the opportunity for LA-based employees to collaborate in-office</li><li class="leading-relaxed">3+ weeks of PTO within the first year</li><li class="leading-relaxed">2 weeks holiday time off at the end of every year</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Unlimited sick days</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Full employee medical, vision, and dental insurance</li><li class="leading-relaxed">401(k) with Employer Matching</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Paid Maternity and Paternity Leave</li></ul><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">Attach a PDF containing a resume.
