Responsibilities
- Perform assigned documentation tasks with computer aided design tools (AutoCAD and MicroStation) in accordance with project guidelines.
- Create engineering drawings, based on sketches and other information provided by others, for highway and city bridges, railway structures and structural culverts, working according to established practices, design codes and guidelines, with a high degree of technical accuracy.
- Ensure drawings are prepared based on specific project drafting standards.
- Ensure accuracy of scale and confirm the accuracy of geometric information presented on drawings.
- Perform quantity take-offs based on drawing information.
- May use innovative/creative methods to produce final product.
- Deliver complete and accurate project design assignments within schedule parameters.
- Obtain a general understanding of overall project goals, constraints and schedule requirements.
- Interact and communicate effectively and professionally with other team members.
- Coordinate with multiple project design disciplines for interference checking, quality control, etc.
- Technical College diploma or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience preparing detailed bridge and structural drawings in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of advanced drafting practices and familiarity with CAD principles (i.e., text placement and editing, layering, x-references, annotation scales, e-transmit, precision input, etc).
- Experience working on preliminary bridge & structural designs including General Arrangement drawings, plan & profile drawings and municipal structures.
- Ability to visualize structures in 3 dimensions.
- Basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D for terrain modelling and roadway design is a bonus.
