Job Description

The Broadcast Director at WCPO will lead newscasts from an automated control room, acting as a creative force while mentoring colleagues. Responsibilities include directing daily broadcasts, collaborating with show producers, leading the control room crew, and directing additional shows and special reports. They will also assist with studio setups and be a resource for less experienced colleagues. The role requires flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. This position is for a fast-paced news environment, making sure that the content is delivered to the viewers.
Must have:
  • Direct fast-paced productions.
  • Knowledge of video switchers and effects.
  • Familiarity with studio equipment.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills.

Job Details

The E.W Scripps company is hiring a Broadcast Director, for WCPO in Cincinnati. Are you ready to be part of a fast-paced newsroom environment? The Broadcast Director will be responsible for leading our newscasts from our automated control room. In this role, you'll be the creative force behind our daily broadcasts while mentoring colleagues and delivering compelling content to our viewers.
 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Direct fast-paced, rapidly changing daily newscasts from our automated control room
  • Collaborate with show producers using newsroom computer systems to create integrated automated show rundowns
  • Lead control room crew for pre-production, studio shot planning and graphics integration
  • Direct additional shows, production shoots and special reports assigned
  • Assist with studio setups including lighting and other technical elements
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced colleagues
  • Work flexible hours including holidays, weekends, evenings, and possible overtime
     

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Associates degree in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Specialized training/certification may be required
  • Generally, 5+ years of experience in broadcast direction or related field preferred
     

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Ability to direct fast-paced rapidly changing productions for extended periods
  • Working knowledge of state-of-the-art video switchers and effects
  • Familiarity with routers, video servers, audio consoles, robotic studio cameras, graphics systems and studio production equipment
  • Strong computer skills
  • Effective communication and people skills
  • Ability to perform constant viewing of multiple video and computer monitors
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
