Job Summary

The Director of GamesIndustry.biz takes overall ownership of our leading games trade brand, ensuring its reputation for integrity, credibility and quality remain unquestioned while continuously evaluating and evolving our offering to maintain its leadership position in the sector.
The Director focuses on pursuing commercial opportunities in events, research and editorial media worldwide, with a strong emphasis on global expansion. Collaborating closely with the IGN Entertainment Managing Editor and the GamesIndustry.biz editorial team, they work to enhance the brand's reach and actively engage its audience while identifying and developing new commercial ventures in events,editorial platforms and content coverage.
Having extensive relationships and experience establishing new relationships is essential in coordinating a diverse network of industry contacts. This will enable us to understand the changing needs of our trade audience, improve our B2B events, and collaborate with the editorial and sales teams. Furthermore, these connections will help us capitalize on commercial opportunities that arise from valuable insights.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve global expansion and success of GI as the go to leader for gaming industry information.
  • Develop and cultivate strong relationships with the global games industry leaders.
  • Establish the Director role as a figurehead of the brand in the UK, US, AU and ROW.
  • Work with the IGN Entertainment Managing Editor in supporting the editorial team, growing readership and audience engagement, while protecting their integrity and editorial independence.
  • Work with the Sales team and the Events team to deliver profitability across the brand and ensure successful delivery of promotions and partnerships.
  • Drive website and newsletter development with the Innovation and email marketing teams.
  • Partner with the HR team to develop our roles, email and user-data products.
  • Ensure the objectives and goals of the role are being met.
  • Responsible for the brand’s P&L, including cost management.
  • Identify event and industry organizations worldwide to work with, and implement media and commercial partnerships with them
  • Internally, present and communicate a clear vision for the brand and its development to the Management team, and the wider company.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of the games industry and an enviable contact book.
  • Track record of success in hybrid commercial / editorial / B2B events management roles.
  • Ability to collaborate with an experienced editorial team, while protecting independence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various internal teams across different fields, as well as external editorial, commercial, and events partners.
  • An understanding of how to run a profitable business and how to navigate a P&L
  • Strong business insight, acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Instinctive ability to lead and grow positive relationships.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of autonomy, determination and drive.
  • Positive solution oriented attitude and team mentality
  • Show passion and excitement about the gaming and entertainment industry.
Work Environment: 
  • Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, M-F. Due to events and obligations, there may be a need to work extended hours and weekends from time to time. 
  • Travel Requirements: There is a expectation that this role will need to be able to travel within the US and internationally for events and for meetings with clients, as needed. 
  • Physical Requirements: This role involves standard office-based activities, including extended periods of sitting, standing, and working at a computer. Occasional travel is required, which could include lifting and carrying materials, and navigating airports, hotels, and other venues.   • Work Model: This role will be expected to work out of our Los Angeles office on a hybrid basis, 2-3 days per week.

Salary Disclosure: Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $120,000 to $140,000, plus incentive compensation (for eligible roles only), 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.
