Job Description

As a Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy for Google in Korea and Taiwan, you will be responsible for shaping Google's policy agenda in these regions. This role involves representing Google externally at the highest levels of government, building relationships with key stakeholders, developing and leading policy campaigns, and managing a team of policy professionals. You will be a key player in ensuring that Google's interests are effectively represented and advocated for in these critical markets. You will be responsible for determining and managing our key policy campaigns in-country and also for coordinating with cross-functional peers locally and with colleagues across Google’s global Government Affairs & Public Policy organization. You will be an empowering manager, capable of supporting and growing the team, ensuring that the team delivers at the highest levels but also has fun along the way.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of experience in Government Affairs & Public Policy
  • Experience in leading a team of professionals
  • Ability to communicate in Korean fluently
  • Public-speaking experience and passion for internet policy issues
  • Intrinsic understanding of Government Affairs and Public Policy in Korea and Taiwan
  • Familiarity with internet technologies
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent people, political, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in Government Affairs & Public Policy.
  • Experience in leading a team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate in Korean fluently to support stakeholder management (internally and externally) within this region.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Public-speaking experience and passion for internet policy issues.
  • Intrinsic understanding of Government Affairs and Public Policy in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Familiarity with internet technologies and the policy and political environments that surround them.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast moving environment, and get up to speed quickly on complex technical and regulatory issues.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Google externally at the highest levels of policy-making and government in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Develop and lead public policy campaigns across the full range of policy areas that impact Google and the web (e.g., technology innovation, free expression, privacy and intellectual property).
  • Build a network of trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and others to support policies that will help create/maintain a user-focused online environment and an open Internet.
  • Lead and empower the Government Affairs & Public Policy team in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Ensure relevant and timely internal communications and information flow locally and vis-a-vis global colleagues.
