Engineering Program Manager (China)

Quilt’s mission is to combat climate change by transitioning humanity away from fossil fuel heating. Home emissions account for 20% of the US total (surpassing even car emissions!) and the primary component is the combustion of fossil fuels for heat. To address climate change, we must facilitate the transition of over 80 million US homes from combustion-based systems to efficient electric heat pumps in the coming decades.

To achieve this transition, we believe the world needs delightful, exceptional products that are easy to use and install. Currently, heat pumps lack compelling design, underutilize software capabilities, and pose significant challenges in adoption and use. That's why we're building a next-generation, aesthetically pleasing, AI-optimized home heating and cooling system that is 10x better than what is on the market today. 

Role:

We are looking for a mission-driven Engineering Program Manager to work closely with our contract manufacturer to deliver our product. This is a key role for our highly collaborative, customer obsessed and talented team’s success. In this role, you will act as a bridge between our team in the US and our manufacturing and development partner’s R&D team. You are highly effective at driving project plans, identifying risks, and aligning teams to execute mitigation plans. You love wearing multiple hats and flex all parts of your skillset as needed for your projects to be successful.

This role is targeting 40 hours/week and based in Zhuhai, China.

Responsibilities:

• Lead day to day activities at Quilt’s partners’ location to ensure timely and high quality deliverables
• Provide multidisciplinary program management of Quilt’s core heat pump product in Asia
• Ensure alignment of onsite engineering activities with project goals, proactively request support from US engineering team to eliminate mis-alignment
• Ensure adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards from our JDM engineering team
• Coordinate with a cross-functional team including engineering, design, supply chain, and manufacturing to drive project milestones and deliverables
• Proactively identify risks, develop mitigation plans and drive corrective action onsite at JDM partner
• Drive regular project meetings, site visits, and reviews with the JDM partner to monitor progress, address issues, and drive continuous improvement
• Collaborate with Quilt in-house manufacturing and supply chain team to ensure build preparation, including material, quality plan and line readiness

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
• Proven experience (10+ years) in engineering program management, preferably in the consumer electronics industry.
• Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Solid technical background with prior experience in developing integrated hardware products as a mechanical design engineer
• Experience driving JDM projects to develop consumer electronics and managing external vendors to execute reliability and compliance test plans
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in a contract manufacturing environment in China
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
• Fluent in Mandarin and English, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts in both languages.
• Ability to work on-site at JDM location in Zhuhai
