As a Lead 3D artist, you will lead and manage a team of texturing artists, ensuring the creation of high-quality, photorealistic textures for 3D models. You will use your advanced technical skills in Substance Painter and Photoshop to oversee and contribute to the texturing process, ensuring optimal UV layouts and texel density.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of texturing artists, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality output.
  • Design Interpretation: Ensure the team follows design references meticulously to capture details and create 3D textures accordingly. Adapt to various visual styles based on client needs.
  • Technical Oversight: Oversee the UV layout process to ensure uniform texel density and minimal distortion, achieving maximum texture detail.
  • Texture Creation: Lead by example in using Photoshop and Substance Painter for texture creation and editing. Ensure the team has a solid understanding of PBR maps and other mesh maps like Ambient Occlusion, Position, and Thickness.
  • Reporting: Compile and deliver detailed weekly and monthly reports on the team's progress and achievements.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with other teams to align the team's work with project goals and deadlines.
  • Strategic Input: Provide strategic insights to improve workflow and overall efficiency based on your expertise and the team's performance.
  • Deadline Management: Effectively manage time and resources to meet tight deadlines while maintaining the highest quality standards for deliverables.


Competencies:

Technical Competencies-

  • Advanced Texturing Skills: Minimum experience of 3 years in creating high-quality textures for 3D models for hard-surface assets.
  • Software Proficiency: Expertise in software such as Adobe Photoshop, Substance Painter, Mari, ZBrush, and other industry-standard texturing tools.
  • Understanding of UV Mapping: Strong knowledge of UV mapping techniques to optimize texture resolution and quality.
  • PBR Knowledge: Familiarity with PBR materials and application to achieve realistic effects.
  • Pipeline Integration: Understanding of texturing's role within the 3D pipeline and ability to integrate textures seamlessly with modeling, rigging, and rendering stages.
  • Rendering Knowledge: Familiarity with rendering engines (e.g. V-Ray, Cycles, Corona) and how textures interact with different lighting and rendering setups.
Managerial Competencies:
  • Team Leadership: Ability to lead, manage, and mentor a team of texturing artists, fostering creativity, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Project Management: Skilled in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of high-quality textures.
  • Quality Control: Establishing and maintaining quality standards for textures, conducting reviews, and providing constructive feedback to ensure adherence to artistic and technical requirements.
  • Feedback and Review: Providing clear and constructive feedback on team members' work, guiding improvements in texture quality and efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other departments such as modeling, rigging, and animation to ensure textures enhance overall visual quality and storytelling.


Software Proficiency:


Modelling - Basics of Autodesk Maya/Max.

Texturing - Expertise in Substance Painter, Photoshop.


Knowledge of Marmoset is good to have.
