Job Description

Springer Nature is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible art editor for the Nature Reviews series. The role involves creating scientifically accurate figures using Adobe Illustrator, re-styling data graphics, art working and retouching, creating illustrations for articles and covers, and managing workloads to meet deadlines. The art editor will work within a team producing scientific illustrations for Physical Science titles and should be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The position is based in London and follows a hybrid working model.
Must have:
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven team environment
  • Ability to follow strict Nature Reviews house style
  • Demonstrable artistic and creative flair
Good to have:
  • BA Honours in Graphic Design (illustration) or equivalent

About the Role

Springer Nature is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible art editor to work on the world-leading Nature Reviews series of STM journals. The Nature Reviews portfolio includes Life, Clinical, Physical and Social Sciences titles. The successful candidate will work within a team of art editors and editors that produce scientific illustrations for the Physical Science titles of the Nature Reviews portfolio. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.

We are hiring in our London office for a hybrid role.

Role Responsibilities:

  • This role will require the creation of scientifically accurate figures using Adobe Illustrator, in accordance with our recognisable house style
  • Re-styling data graphics, such as graphs, maps, timelines and flow diagrams in house style
  • Art working and retouching, setting and labelling of photographs and data renders
  • Creation of illustrated monthly covers and web homepage imagery
  • Illustrations for editorially written articles and picture research if photographs are needed
  • Hands-on management and organisation of workloads in order to meet press deadlines
  • Occasional poster and infographic design
  • Follow workflows, guidelines and procedures to ensure efficient turnaround of work across departments

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Proficient in using Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven team environment
  • Ability to follow strict Nature Reviews house style
  • Demonstrable artistic and creative flair

Desirable

  • BA Honours in Graphic Design (illustration) or equivalent
