Ema is building the next generation of AI technology to empower every employee in the enterprise to be their most creative and productive. Our proprietary platform enables companies to delegate repetitive tasks to Ema, the Universal AI Employee—a powerful, secure, and intelligent teammate that integrates across workflows and systems.
We’re founded by executives from Google, Coinbase, and Okta, and backed by the world’s top investors and angels. Headquartered in Silicon Valley and Bangalore, Ema operates as a hybrid team. For this role, we expect team members to work from the office three days a week.
We are seeking a senior platform and infrastructure engineering leader to architect, scale, and own the core systems that power Ema’s agentic AI. This role is especially critical to building and scaling:
Our Data Ingestion Platform – which enables Ema to securely ingest, transform, and index data from documents, spreadsheets, emails, and SaaS systems.
Our Application Integration Platform – which connects Ema to hundreds of third-party APIs, allowing our agents to act across CRMs, ITSMs, HRIS platforms, and more.
You will also lead Ema’s authentication and authorization platform
Own core SaaS infrastructure (both SaaS and on-prem) and lead DevOps/SRE functions to ensure our platforms are highly available, resilient, and secure. You will drive best practices in automation, observability, CI/CD, and incident response, empowering Ema’s systems to scale reliably as we grow.
This is a high-leverage leadership role that spans architecture, execution, and org-building, and will shape the direction of our platform for years to come.
Design and scale our Data Ingestion Platform, enabling structured and unstructured data to flow seamlessly into Ema for search, reasoning, and generation.
Lead our Application Integration Platform, building extensible API frameworks that integrate with third-party SaaS apps, allowing Ema to take real-world actions on behalf of users.
Own the architecture and implementation of Ema’s authentication and authorization systems, including RBAC, tenant isolation, and SSO integrations.
Design high-scale, resilient backend systems in Python and Go, optimized for latency, availability, and data integrity.
Implement robust, extensible APIs and connector frameworks for data and workflow integrations.
Institute the right DevOps and SRE processes and tools to maximize platform availability, security, and cost efficiency. Collaborate with engineering and product stakeholders to proactively identify and address infrastructure gaps, ensuring continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Drive LLMOps infrastructure: build and maintain a smart LLM gateway that performs routing, error detection, and tenant-specific tuning.
Ensure platform support for diverse data formats (PDFs, spreadsheets, databases, charts, etc.) using PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and other relevant tools.
Improve developer velocity by building powerful local dev environments (e.g., Minikube), CI/CD pipelines, and end-to-end test infra.
Lead observability and release automation, ensuring uptime, reliability, and smooth deployments in multi-tenant and single-tenant setups.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of experience in backend systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
Proven experience owning data ingestion systems and SaaS application integration platforms.
Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, containerized services, and microservice orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Prior ownership of identity and access management systems, including enterprise SSO and RBAC.
Solid understanding of LLM-based pipelines, knowledge retrieval, and secure document processing.
Strong experience with data systems like PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
Demonstrated ability to build platforms that enable rapid internal and external integration.
Experience deploying in multi-tenant SaaS environments, with attention to isolation, performance, and security.
Ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts and scale systems through hypergrowth.
Proven experience leading high-performance DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure.
Work at the forefront of agentic AI systems—driving real enterprise transformation.
