About Betterment

Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company that offers investing and retirement solutions for retail investors and investment advisors as well as financial wellness solutions, including a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses. Our team is passionate about our mission: making people’s lives better. We’re headquartered in NYC, and offer hybrid NY-based (three days/ week in-office) and select, non-NY-based remote positions.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Product Designer to create compelling and impactful website experiences that engage prospective customers and improve our high level acquisition funnels. You will bring creative, analytical, and technical design skills to collaborate closely with a strong cross-functional team and stakeholders working across all three of our business lines.

At Betterment, we hire designers who are passionate about personal finance, and building intuitive, delightful experiences for customers to manage their money. You approach problems holistically, and are self-motivated, learning new skills quickly, with a sense for what you’ll develop next. We seek out folks who are talented and eager to both learn from their colleagues and help make them better. As a design team, we're focused and always strive for excellence.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.

  • New York City: $105,000 - $115,000

We offer a competitive equity package, health, dental and vision benefits, life and AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance, EAP, commuter and parking benefits FSA/HSA, and 401(k) with employer match as well as a flexible PTO policy. This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus. For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.

A day in the life

  • Design pages and experiences for our marketing websites, creating compelling experiences that engage prospective customers and tell the Betterment story across our three business lines (consumer, 401k and advisor).
  • Iterate and improve on our high level acquisition experiences
  • Help design the experience of using our internal CMS tool
  • Make informed design decisions based on competitor analysis, research, customer feedback, site metrics and usability principles.
  • Contribute to and uphold our accessible design system patterns and brand guidelines.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of design for your projects from inception through launch.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, brand designers, content strategists, product design, marketing, and many others, working closely in a cross-disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to product strategy by identifying new opportunities, ideas for A/B tests and staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Further develop your design skills, working among a talented team of designers, providing one another feedback and perspective, aiming for a cohesive holistic experience across all touchpoints.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of relevant experience as a Product Designer (previous titles may have been different)
  • Portfolio of extraordinary product design work
  • Experience shipping impactful designs to real people, across web and mobile
  • Experience designing within an established accessible design system and evolving when appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Strong collaborative skills with experience navigating and managing lots of feedback
  • An iterative, customer-centric approach to designing experiences
  • Experience working in a data-informed test and learn environment
  • A clear understanding of how to determine user problems, through research, user testing, and data analysis
  • Strategic product thinking and vision
