Detroit Labs seeks a Senior Agentic AI Engineer for a hybrid role in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This position involves developing connected vehicle services for automotive technology, focusing on backend, frontend, and middleware applications. The engineer will design and implement multi-agent AI systems, optimize LangChain/LangGraph pipelines, and integrate advanced reasoning capabilities using vector databases and RAG systems. Responsibilities include scaling APIs, ensuring robust error recovery, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative AI solutions.
Must have:
  • 10+ years professional software engineering experience with expert Python skills.
  • 2+ years building and deploying agentic AI systems in production.
  • Experience with LangGraph and LangChain for autonomous agent orchestration.
  • Background in FastAPI, async/await, and concurrent programming.
  • Proficiency with Google Cloud AI services (Vertex AI, Gemini, PaLM).
  • Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma) and semantic search.
  • Design and implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems.
  • Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes in distributed environments.
  • Understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Redis Streams).
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, LangSmith).
  • Familiarity with transformer architectures, LLM fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning.
  • Lead projects, mentor engineers, and deliver production-ready AI systems.
  • Design and implement multi-agent systems for reasoning and autonomous task execution.
  • Build and optimize LangChain/LangGraph pipelines for complex workflows.
  • Develop and scale APIs for agent interaction and integration with connected vehicles.
  • Integrate vector databases, knowledge graphs, and RAG systems.

This role is based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence three days per week.

Please note: Due to the in-office requirement, we will only be considering candidates that are local to the Metro Detroit area at this time.

Detroit Labs is looking for experienced Senior Agentic AI Engineers to join an exciting project with an existing client that drives game-changing automotive technology. This role will work on connected vehicle services for customers owning vehicles with connected capabilities across the USA and Canada. These systems consist of several backend, frontend, and middleware applications. The systems integrate with the connectivity units inside the vehicle, and enable features like the ability to remotely start the vehicle, view parking locations, Alexa voice commands, and many more. Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with expert-level Python skills
  • Ability to write, debug, and optimize production code
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying agentic AI systems in production
  • Experience with LangGraph and LangChain for autonomous agent workflow orchestration
  • Background in FastAPI, async/await, and concurrent programming

  • Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, etc.) and semantic search optimization
  • Experience designing and implementing RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems
  • Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) in distributed environments
  • Understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Redis Streams, or similar)
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, LangSmith)
  • Familiarity with transformer architectures, LLM fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning for agent training
  • Experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, and delivering production-ready AI systems

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement multi-agent systems for reasoning, planning, and autonomous task execution
  • Build and optimize LangChain/LangGraph pipelines for complex workflows and tool usage
  • Develop and scale APIs to power agent interaction, monitoring, and integration with connected vehicles

  • Implement real-time streaming capabilities and robust error recovery mechanisms
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams (Product Owners, Data Scientists, Developers, Designers, etc.)
  • Conduct design/code reviews, provide accurate estimates, and deliver reliable solutions on schedule
  • Stay current on the latest AI/ML research and apply relevant techniques to production environments
  • Work a hybrid schedule, coming into the Auburn Hills office at least three days per week
