SENIOR GENERALIST ENGINEERS AT BSG…  

You have intimate knowledge of the game engineering pipeline and have evolved your skillset and techniques to align with the wisdom you've gained by working on numerous AAA titles. You are recognized as a reliable developer with the chops to get the job done but the self-actualization to know when to seek feedback. You laugh in the face of a challenge because you already set high expectations for yourself and are confident in your ability to deliver high-quality work the first time around.   

Although your influence is essential to the department's success and you provide some mentorship to junior developers, coding is your bread and butter. You are a master of independent work but recognize the power behind collaboration so you haven't forgotten how to be a team player.    

   

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES   

Blind Squirrel Games (BSG) is looking for a Senior Generalist Engineer to join us in creating an unannounced game for console.  

Supported by project Leads, the Senior Generalist Engineer will solve tough technical challenges in a high energy environment with experienced industry leaders and a highly collaborative team.  

The ideal candidate for this role has 5+ year's experience in Unreal Engine 4+ using C++ and an eagerness to explore additional game engines and programming languages.   

This is a full-time position available to work based out of our Irvine, CA studio location. At this time, we are only considering local applicants that can work a hybrid schedule.  

The salary range being considered for this role is $105,000 - $117,900. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance, and location.  

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  1. Create high-performance, robust, maintainable code in a cross-platform environment
  2. Deploy, evaluate performance, optimize and test software on PC and console platforms
  3. Evaluate existing technology architectures
  4. Drive the evaluation and documentation of existing technology and engines
  5. Adapt engineering solutions to utilize the latest console APIs
  6. Extend existing systems to meet long-term needs of ongoing development
  7. Work with external development partners
  8. Adhere to team coding standards and practice
  9. Required to work independently and report to a manager
  10. Teach and mentor junior and mid-level engineers on relevant best practices and modern technologies
  11. Other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned to help complete company or department objectives

   

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience in AAA game development

   

PREFERRED SKILLS  

  • Fluent in C/C++
  • Familiar with C, C#, HTML, Java, or HLSL/GLSL
  • Solid understanding of multi-threaded programming
  • Strong knowledge in software engineering/architecture and design patterns
  • Demonstrated ability to write efficient, clean, readable, portable, and reliable code
  • Strong 3D skills and low-level engine experience
  • Creative, motivated, focused, passionate, results-oriented
  • Effective communicator in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience with the current PC development process
  • Familiar with contemporary engines (Unreal, Unity, Godot, Source, etc.)
  • Familiar with contemporary platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Steam Deck, etc.) 

  

PLUSES  

  • Unreal Engine 5 experience
  • Mobile or native Android development experience
  • A passion for video games and game development
  • Previous experience with rendering, graphics, or optimization
