Job Description

Tesla's Factory Software team seeks a Senior Software QA Engineer to ensure high-quality software for manufacturing, distribution, and warehousing systems. Responsibilities include performing various testing methods (manual and automated), designing and developing robust automated tests (regression, performance, stress), building CI/CD pipelines, writing backend and frontend integration tests, and providing technical leadership. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in software testing, proficiency in automation frameworks, and a strong understanding of CI/CD principles. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end functionality and high system reliability.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with K6, Gatling, or Jmeter
  • Experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium
  • SQL and relational database knowledge
Must Have:
  • 5+ years Software Testing experience
  • Automation framework design & development

The Role

Tesla’s Factory Software team operates cameras and backend systems in manufacturing, distribution, and warehousing sites across the world. Dozens of teams rely on these systems, including Production Control, Inventory Control, Supply Chain Automation, Process Engineering, Packaging Engineering, and Material Handling.

We are looking for a Sr. Software QA Engineer with a passion for quality who will be responsible for assessing software quality through all testing aspects. You will build test automation with the goal of providing maximum coverage in the most efficient manner and ensuring that the test infrastructure is easily maintainable and can scale to the demands of a dynamic CI/CD environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform a variety of testing methods, including manual functional testing, to validate system functionality and compliance with business requirements, ensuring high-quality deliverables
  • Design and develop robust automated tests for regression, performance, and stress tests using industry standard tools
  • Specify, design, develop, integrate, and maintain test automation frameworks and tools
  • Build CI/CD pipelines to execute and report automated tests
  • Write backend and frontend integration tests as well as end-to-end  tests for RESTful APIs and Web UI
  • Triage execution failures and address gaps between existing tests and the automation framework to ensure a highly reliable and performant system
  • Provide technical leadership, driving and performing engineering best practices to initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross-functional, and company-wide critical programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and validate end-end functionality
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Computer Engineering, Information Security, Electrical Engineering or related field or proof of exceptional skills in related fields, with practical engineering experience
  • 5+ years Software Testing experience
  • Demonstrable experience solving difficult QA problems (scalability, reliability, reporting, parallelization, etc)
  • Passionate about troubleshooting failures to determine root cause
  • Experience in designing automation frameworks and developing test automation software
  • Proficient with one or more of the following: Typescript (preferable), Python, JavaScript, Ruby, Java, and/or C#
  • Working knowledge of test methodologies, processes, and tools (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, JIRA, STLC, Test Management tool – Xray, Zephyr)
  • Knowledge of relational databases/SQL
  • Good understanding of CI/CD principles and tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Practical expertise in performing load and performance testing using K6, Gatling or/and Jmeter is a big plus
  • Excellent communication skills, very detail oriented and evidence of exceptional ability
