Summary

The Search Experiments Infrastructure team helps make Google Search more useful, delightful, and dependable. As a Software Engineer Tech Lead, you'll write and test code, lead design reviews, review code from other developers, contribute to documentation, triage and resolve system issues. Responsibilities include leading design decisions, ensuring code quality, and contributing to a performant and reliable experimentation infrastructure. The role involves working on projects critical to Google's needs, impacting billions of users globally and requires experience in software development, testing, design, and system design at scale. The team is focused on reimagining search and solving complex engineering challenges.
Must have:
  • 5+ years software development experience
  • Experience with data structures/algorithms
  • 3+ years testing/launching software
  • 1+ year software design and architecture experience
  • System design at scale experience
  • Code writing and testing
  • Lead design reviews
  • Code review and feedback
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS
  • Technical leadership experience
  • People management experience

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with system design at scale.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience in People management in a technical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide among available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
