The Senior Staff PQ engineer will demonstrate a solid understanding and prior knowledge of several aspects of digital image / video processing pipeline in professional and consumer capture and display devices. You will be working on the development and implementation of innovative picture quality measurement and tuning methods and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the leader of picture quality for Dolby Vision's home device products and help develop and enhance both subjective and objective picture quality tuning/testing methodologies.
  • Innovate, generate ideas, and identify opportunities to enhance the product. Collaborate with others to evaluate and refine the technical feasibility of their ideas and conduct demonstrations to exhibit them.
  • Collaborate with other Picture Quality teams within Dolby to provide the most effective recommendations for improving Dolby's technology across the ecosystem.
  • Assist in engineering for current products and help troubleshoot and diagnose issues, based on a deep understanding of how TVs and TV components (panel, SoC, etc.) work. Assist in the creation of captivating demos for the current product.
  • Evaluate the current Dolby Vision content and display mapping technology to find areas for improvement, and work with the Business, Product, and Research groups to develop roadmap for the future.
  • Engage with key partners (SoCs, OEMs etc.) using Dolby Vision technology to understand current issues and provide guidance during the implementation of new features.
  • Assist in customizing the picture mode of Dolby Vision TVs to match the preferences of a range of consumers.
  • Review and provide guidance on the design and implementation of PQ testing/tuning automation framework for Dolby Vision Home Device products.
  • Produce relevant technical documentation related to the area of Picture Quality to help understand diverse topics related to Dolby Vision Picture Quality.
  • Conduct or design training to support field engineers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) on the tools and utilities developed by the picture quality group.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience. Master's degree is preferred, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of digital image / video processing theory and practice.
  • Deep understanding of image / video pipelines in TVs, monitors, PCs, game consoles, tablets, and mobile phones.
  • Strong programming skills at least in one language (Python, Matlab, and C/C++)
  • Familiar with a wide range of digital image processing algorithms and techniques, as well as image quality metrics, measurement techniques and optimization
  • Spatial/temporal interpolation
  • Sharpness / detail adjustment
  • Noise reduction and dithering
  • Color saturation and contrast control
  • Solid understanding of display backlight technology, and experience in fine tuning control modules for optimized picture quality.
  • Understanding of advanced display technologies and related processing.
  • Proficient at applying scientific principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to various technical problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, and team-oriented work ethic.
  • A record of accomplishment of successful product development in consumer and professional display market.

The San Francisco/Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $201,800-$246,500, which can vary if outside this location, plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
