Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with expertise in Generative AI to join their Gemini Code Assist team. The successful candidate will lead a team in developing AI-powered development tools that boost developer productivity. This role involves working with server and middleware code that interacts with Google's latest LLMs, collaborating with Vertex and DeepMind teams to define technical direction, and owning the execution to enhance model performance for code-related use cases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Generative AI, machine learning, software development, and technical leadership, with experience in leading cross-functional teams and setting technical direction.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture
  • Experience in Generative AI (Large Language Models, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models)
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing or other ML discipline
Good to have:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 5 years of experience leading ML design and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning)
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects

Gemini Code Assist, which is a product in the Gemini for Google Cloud portfolio, offers AI-powered assistance to help the development team build, deploy, and operate applications throughout the software development life-cycle.

In this role, you will be leading a team in developing Generative AI based development tools that are propelling developers productivity. You will work with server code as well as Middleware code which implement functionalities that interact with Google latest LLMs. You will be working with the Vertex and Deepmind team and will jointly define technical directions and own the execution to improve the model for the code related use cases.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
