About the job:
As a Staff Software Engineer on the YouTube Over the Top Engineering team, you will work on projects delivering high-quality TV services for YouTube TV, Primetime Channels, and other products. You'll design and implement solutions for complex requirements and scale, ensuring reliability and efficiency. You will also contribute to the evolution of YouTube's data models to support TV metadata. Your responsibilities will include coaching and mentoring team members, establishing engineering excellence standards, and driving the execution of the team's OKRs.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
  • 5 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture
  • 3 years of experience coding with a general purpose programming language (C/C++)
  • Experience with distributed database management
  • Applications or services for data analysis, visualization, exploration, and management
Good to have:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects
  • Experience with back-end infrastructure
  • Experience developing web-based applications

Minimum qualifications:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Own and drive projects that deliver the highest quality TV services to power YouTube TV, Primetime Channels, and other products.
  • Coach and mentor team members, providing guidance and support in their technical work, establishing the engineering excellence standards, defining the team technology roadmap, and driving the execution of the team's OKRs.
  • Design and implement solutions for the team to address increasingly complex requirements and scale, providing support and infrastructure to multiple premium products in the space, with focus on quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Improve service reliability and robustness through tooling and automation which directly impacts the quality of the user experience of our products.
  • Help evolve the YouTube data models to support the complexities of TV metadata.
