Position Purpose:
This position offers an exciting opportunity within Morningstar Sustainalytics’ Stewardship practice to work at the intersection of investing and corporate sustainability.
The ESG Voting Policy Overlay brings a specialist ESG lens to proxy voting, complementing ongoing engagements with companies and extending traditional proxy voting approaches. You will join a dynamic team of stewardship professionals, which spans North America and Europe and comprises one of the longest-running engagement services in the industry.
This role entails researching and developing proxy voting recommendations and leading a team of analysts in meeting tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will bring strong communication and leadership skills, experience in proxy voting and ESG research, and subject matter expertise in corporate governance and climate-related investment risks and opportunities. The role offers opportunities to support ongoing engagements, collaborate across teams, and contribute to thought leadership on corporate governance, climate transition, stewardship and related topics.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a small team of proxy voting research analysts to conduct research and articulate informed positions on governance and sustainability ballot measures voted across markets and throughout the year
- Track and understand regulatory developments as well as industry and investor initiatives that shape corporate accountability across markets.
- Contribute thought leadership on corporate governance themes and developments in proxy voting.
- Work closely with colleagues to answer client questions and ensure a high degree of client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to ensure that the program continues to develop to meet investor client expectations.
- Contribute to client deliverables, including periodic progress reports.
Qualifications:
- Advanced qualification and/or post-graduate degree in a related discipline. Additional credentials welcomed.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in investor relations, responsible investing, law, finance, regulatory oversight, consulting or academia.
- Strong familiarity with the proxy process and engagement.
- Strong understanding of corporate sustainability and corporate governance disclosure frameworks in major markets.
- Excellent research, analytical and writing capabilities.
- Data management and quantitative analysis skills.
- Highly professional communication skills (both in spoken and written formats).
- Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities and to deliver efficiently by prioritizing tasks.
- Demonstrated competence working in teams and collaborative settings.
