Job Description

As a Technical Writer at Google Cloud's Foundation Services, you'll communicate complex information clearly and concisely to technical audiences. Responsibilities include writing conceptual overviews and procedures, creating code samples, updating help center materials, and working with engineering and product management to document new features. You will lead user experience improvements, information architecture, and navigation efforts, aiming to reduce fragmentation and improve discoverability. You'll also work with internal and external audiences, including developers, marketing, and developer advocates, creating in-depth documentation. The role involves managing projects and coordinating junior writers. This position requires a strong understanding of REST-based technologies and experience writing for the web using Markdown, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
4+ years technical content creation experience
Web writing experience (Markdown, HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
Lead UX, information architecture, and navigation improvements
Document new features with engineering and product management
Communicate with Cloud customers through various online materials

Good to have:

Experience with REST-based technologies (HTTP, JSON, XML, YAML)
Experience assisting non-writers with developmental and copy editing
Familiarity with API management, Cloud technologies, and SDLC
Proven track record of writing effective documentation for developers and DevOps
Ability to design information architecture for moderate to large content sets

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
4 years of experience creating content for technical audiences (e.g., developer documentation, Computer Science course material, or IT administration playbooks).
Experience writing for the web and with Markdown, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with REST-based technologies (e.g., HTTP, JSON, XML, YAML).
Experience assisting non-writers with developmental and copy editing.
Familiarity with API management, Cloud, Cloud/Hybrid, Multi-Cloud, or Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) technologies and practices.
Proven track record of researching and writing effective documentation for developers and dev-ops.
Ability to design information architecture for moderate to large content sets.
