Job Description

The Utilities Specialist at Tesla Real Estate Operations will be responsible for managing and optimizing utility consumption across all Tesla locations. This includes ensuring accurate utility records, performing financial forecasting and cost management, onboarding new suppliers, and managing relationships with third-party providers. The role requires strong analytical abilities, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to resolve complex issues. Responsibilities include proactive resolution of utility escalations, managing projects related to smart meters and solar installations, collaborating with Real Estate and Project Management teams, and contributing to the creation of dashboards showing utility consumption and spending. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated utility industry knowledge, experience in contract management, and advanced Excel skills. A background in EHS, Green Energy, or Solar is a plus.

What to Expect

Our Tesla Real Estate Operations team are on the front lines of our mission. Utility Specialists provide administrative support to enable our locations to run as efficiently and effectively as possible and provide an exceptional experience to our employees and to our customers. The role of Utility Specialist will act as the primary point of contact for all utility account analysis, escalations, accuracy of records, and optimization of spend, highlighting opportunities and anomalies across the fleet. Demonstrated utility industry knowledge related to facilities operations is preferred, as well as a demonstrated focus on mitigating service interruptions and providing financial forecasting and cost management for the portfolio. The right candidate will have strong analytical ability, exceptional communication skills, ability to build business partnerships with both third-party providers as well as across business units, and demonstrate the ability to resolve challenging problems with minimal guidance. 

What You’ll Do
  • Ensure that Utility records are accurate and up to date across all sites including new sites and existing ones.
  • Perform analysis of projected and forecasted utility consumption and spend, highlighting opportunities to improve cost and business operations.
  • Actively onboard new suppliers to internal management systems and processes
  • Take an active role in ensuring location information is kept up to date and accurate.
  • Update project tracking tools and report on project status.
  • Manage relationship with 3rd party utility platform provider, ensuring contract performance metrics are met.
  • Establish proactive and responsive resolution protocols for routine and emergency utility escalations to ensure uninterrupted business operations.
  • Undertake special projects related to Utility scope, such as smart meter/solar installations, government incentives, green provider reporting etc
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships that drive cost efficiency, speed, and quality outcomes for Tesla Sales, Service, Delivery and Energy/Warehousing locations.
  • Perform other cost/data analysis assignments supporting Workplace Operations as assigned.
  • Create guidelines and collaborate with Real Estate and Project Management teams concerning onboarding and decoms of sites, power upgrades
  • Assistance with Real Estate sustainability related queries and tasks
  • Guidelines for PM when requesting new power or upgrades power connections
  • Contribute to the creation of a dashboard to showing utility consumption estimations and spends
What You’ll Bring
  • Experience of contract and payment management.
  • Experience of Facilities, construction, project management is a benefit.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to analyze divers sets of data.
  • Background in EHS, Green Energy, and /or Solar is a plus
  • Administrative experience
  • Fluency in English and an additional language preferred (Dutch, French, Italian).
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a field relevant to business planning & analysis
  • Previous experience in customer relevant work experience (high velocity/high volume setting preferred)
  • Proven understanding of electricity markets, tariffs, and regulations
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under minimal guidance and direction
  • Ability to collaborate in a high energy, fast-paced environment, cross functionally
