Job Description:
The Assistant System Administrator supports the Senior System Administrator in maintaining, monitoring, and securing a broad range of IT systems and infrastructure. The role includes hands-on work with Windows, Linux, and macOS environments, virtualization, networking, cloud platforms, and endpoint management. The ideal candidate will have a proactive mindset, a strong technical foundation, and the ability to support both daily IT operations and long-term strategic initiatives.
This role also plays a key part in maintaining a secure IT environment aligned with best practices and compliance standards such as ISO 27001.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing and mentoring the IT team to improve operational efficiency and technical capabilities
- Administer and support systems across Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms
- Maintain and manage Active Directory (AD), GPO, DNS, and DHCP services
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure including LAN/WAN/VPN
- Manage firewalls and network security appliances
- Support cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365)
- Deploy and manage Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions
- Oversee endpoint security across desktops, laptops, and mobile devices
- Coordinate penetration testing and assist with remediation of security gaps
- Administer VMware environments and manage virtualized infrastructure
- Oversee storage systems (SAN/NAS), data backup, and disaster recovery procedures
- Ensure IT security and business continuity, submitting monthly reports as needed
- Maintain documentation for network diagrams, workflows, and system configurations
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to enhance security and productivity
- Ensure IT practices align with ISO 27001 standards (experience with ISO 27001 is a strong plus)
- Provide regular reports related to system health, security, and compliance metrics
Job Requirements
- Proficiency in Active Directory, Group Policy, and user account management
- Experience supporting macOS and Linux environments
- Strong foundation in networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing)
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPNs, and network security tools
- Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Knowledge of endpoint protection platforms and MDM tools
- Exposure to penetration testing practices and vulnerability remediation
- Solid experience with VMware (6.x or newer)
- Experience with MySQL or MongoDB databases
- Proficiency in Git and modern DevOps practices
- Familiarity with authentication systems (SSO, LDAP, SAML)
- Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
- Experience with ISO 27001 frameworks is a plus
- Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise technical reports
