As Associate Employee Communications Specialist here at Illumina in Cambridge, UK, you’ll be a vital part of our dynamic European Communications team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute across a broad spectrum of communications activities – from internal communications and social media to press office support and event coordination. You’ll collaborate closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, helping to shape and share stories that reflect our mission: to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome.
Must have:
  • Support the development and delivery of internal communications campaigns and initiatives
  • Liaise with senior leaders to craft compelling messages and updates
  • Assist in the creation of content for internal channels including newsletters, intranet, and video
  • Contribute to media relations efforts, including drafting press releases and media pitches
  • Monitor media coverage and support the press office with reactive and proactive communications
  • Assist in planning and creating content for Illumina’s social media platforms
  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment
  • Support the planning and execution of internal and external events
  • Help manage logistics, communications, and post-event follow-up
  • Provide day-to-day support across the communications function
  • Contribute creative ideas to enhance engagement and storytelling

Hybrid working (2–3 days per week in our Cambridge office)

With a background in journalism, public relations, or a related field, you bring outstanding written and verbal communication skills and a flair for engaging diverse audiences. You’ll also bring:

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related discipline
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organisation
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach and a willingness to take initiative

Key Responsibilities Include:

Internal Communications & Leadership Engagement

  • Support the development and delivery of internal communications campaigns and initiatives
  • Liaise with senior leaders to craft compelling messages and updates

Media & Press Office Support
