Job Description

The Export & Compliance Analyst ensures Shield AI's adherence to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and contract compliance under FAR/DFARS. This cross-functional role involves managing export licenses, ensuring material compliance (e.g., specialty metals, TAA), and supporting various teams. Responsibilities include preparing filings, maintaining records, monitoring regulations, and developing internal policies to proactively manage risk and ensure legal compliance.
Good To Have:
  • Proficiency with government systems specifically DECCS and SNAP-R.
  • Strong understanding of ITAR and EAR.
  • Experience with export-controlled products and services to U.S. and foreign government customers.
  • Understanding of FAR and DFARS particularly regarding product/material compliance and contract obligations.
  • Familiarity with unmanned/autonomous systems, AI, or software-driven platforms.
  • Active or prior U.S. security clearance (e.g., Secret).
Must Have:
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. export control laws specific to controlled items, including ITAR and EAR.
  • Prepare and manage export licenses, Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs), and other related filings.
  • Follow business processes pertaining to trade compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and supply chain teams to assess and validate country-of-origin, content, and supplier compliance.
  • Maintain applicable trade compliance records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address compliance requirements and implement effective solutions.
  • Monitor and interpret FAR/DFARS clauses related to material sourcing and product compliance.
  • Help develop, update, and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Support internal compliance assessments and audits.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and industry best practices to proactively assess risk.

The Export & Compliance Analyst plays a key role in maintaining the company’s adherence to U.S. export control regulations and contract compliance obligations under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS). This includes a leading role in export licensing, material compliance (e.g., specialty metals, TAA), and possibly other contract requirements including cybersecurity and cost/pricing. The role is highly cross-functional, supporting teams across contracts, engineering, operations, legal, and business development.

What you'll do:

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. export control laws specific to controlled items, including ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations).
  • Prepare and manage export licenses, Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs), and other related filings; support classification of commodities and technology (ECCN, USML).
  • Follow business processes pertaining to trade compliance requirements and all necessary export and import licenses, permits, certifications, and technology release determinations
  • Collaborate with engineering and supply chain teams to assess and validate country-of-origin, content, and supplier compliance with relevant DFARS clauses.
  • Maintain applicable trade compliance records in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address compliance requirements and implement effective solutions
  • Monitor and interpret FAR/DFARS clauses related to material sourcing and product compliance, including specialty metals, Buy American Act, Trade Agreements Act (TAA), and NDAA 848/817 requirements.
  • Help develop, update, and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Support internal compliance assessments and audits, including required documentation preparation and reviews with management, auditors, and legal counsel
  • Monitor regulatory updates and industry best practices to proactively assess risk and communicate potential impact.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2–5 years of relevant experience in FAR/DFARS or trade compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and functions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Establishes and maintains relations with appropriate government regulatory agencies
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency with government systems specifically DECCS and SNAP-R.
  • Strong understanding of ITAR and EAR.
  • Experience with export-controlled products and services to U.S. and foreign government customers.
  • Understanding of FAR and DFARS particularly regarding product/material compliance and contract obligations.
