Job Description

Veoneer Safety Systems, a world leader in automotive safety electronics, is seeking an Automated Assembly Process Engineer with 15-20 years of experience for its Ranjangaon, Pune location. This role involves designing and implementing automated assembly processes, troubleshooting SMT equipment, leading process improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with automotive quality standards. The engineer will drive continuous improvement, manage process control activities, and collaborate with suppliers to enhance quality, yield, and throughput in a high-volume production environment.
Must Have:
  • Design and implement automated assembly processes.
  • Troubleshoot SMT equipment and process issues.
  • Lead cross-functional teams for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Manage Process-FMEA, SPC, and Capability studies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers for equipment specification, installation, and validation.
  • Support R&D with design-for-manufacturing insights.
  • Drive continuous improvement for quality, yield, and throughput.
  • Oversee SMT operations: solder paste printing, component placement, reflow/selective soldering, SPI, AOI.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive quality standards (IPC, VS2.0, IATF 16949, ISO 9001).
  • 15-20 years hands-on experience in automated assembly process engineering (SMT, electronics/automotive).
  • Advanced technical expertise in SMT processes.
  • Strong leadership and process improvement track record.
  • Proficiency in process control tools.
  • Analytical mindset for data interpretation and root cause analysis.
  • Commitment to zero-defect manufacturing.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • BE / BTech / ME / MTech in relevant engineering.

What You’ll Do?

  • Design and implement automated assembly processes for new product introductions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex SMT equipment and process-related issues.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in process improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Manage process control activities including:
  • Process-FMEA
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Capability studies
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers for specification, installation, and validation of new machinery.
  • Support R&D with design-for-manufacturing insights and ensure process compatibility.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects focused on quality, yield, and throughput.
  • Report key process performance indicators (KPIs) to production and quality teams.
  • Oversee SMT operations such as:
  • Solder paste printing
  • Component placement
  • Reflow and selective soldering
  • SPI (Solder Paste Inspection)
  • AOI (Automated Optical Inspection)
  • Ensure full compliance with automotive quality standards, automation IPC, and VS2.0 protocols.

What You’ll Bring?

  • Hands-on experience in automated assembly process engineering, including SMT, within electronics or automotive manufacturing environments.
  • Advanced technical expertise in:
  • Solder paste printing
  • SPI
  • Reflow soldering
  • AOI
  • Selective soldering
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving process improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality systems and standards, including:
  • IATF 16949
  • ISO 9001
  • IPC-A-610
  • VS2.0
  • Experience in equipment specification and commissioning, working directly with machine suppliers.
  • Proficiency in process control tools such as Process-FMEA, capability studies, and SPC.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Commitment to zero-defect (0ppm) manufacturing and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Project management experience including planning, execution, and reporting of technical initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver results in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills for effective collaboration across engineering, production, quality, and supplier teams.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare technical documentation and present findings to global teams.
  • Openness to travel for supplier visits, equipment commissioning, and cross-site collaboration.

Preferred Qualification: BE / BTech / ME / MTech in relevant engineering stream
