N26 is seeking a Capital Planning and Risk Controlling Manager to oversee capital planning and risk governance within the ICAAP framework. This role involves improving capital planning processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing risk governance. The manager will develop methodologies for capital adequacy assessment, lead ICAAP governance, drive risk management and controlling for the group including RWA calculation, risk appetite, policies, and limit setting. They will ensure adherence to regulations like MaRisk, CRR, and EBA guidelines, collaborate with Finance, Treasury, and Risk teams, and improve risk reporting. The position also includes engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
Must have:
  • Master's degree in business/economics, finance, or related field
  • 5+ years in risk management, financial risk controlling, or capital planning in banking
  • Strong understanding of ICAAP frameworks, stress testing, and regulatory requirements
  • Proven experience in risk governance frameworks
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • Excellent English communication skills

About the Opportunity

Are you ready for your next career step? N26 is looking for a Capital Planing and Risk Controlling Manager to take ownership of capital planning and risk governance within the ICAAP framework at a cutting-edge technology-driven bank. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and improving capital planning processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and enhancing overall risk governance. You will play a key role in developing and implementing methodologies for capital adequacy assessment, working closely with stakeholders across the organisation.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and enhance capital planning and overall ICAAP governance, ensuring robust risk management and compliance with evolving regulations.
  • Drive and enhance the risk management and risk controlling of the N26 group, taking ownership of key areas such as RWA calculation, risk appetite, risk policies and decision-making frameworks, limit setting and monitoring, and internal controls.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements such as MaRisk, CRR, ICAAP guidelines, and EBA regulatory expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Treasury, and Risk, to align capital planning with business and risk strategy to support informed decision-making and sustainable growth.
  • Continuously improve risk reporting by developing insightful analyses that support decision-making and capital adequacy discussions.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulators, on ICAAP and capital planning matters.

What you need to be successful:

Background & Skills

  • Master’s degree in business/economics, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management, financial risk controlling, or capital planning within the banking sector.
  • Strong understanding of ICAAP frameworks, stress testing, and regulatory requirements (e.g., MaRisk, CRR, EBA guidelines).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing risk governance frameworks, particularly in capital planning and risk appetite setting, ensuring alignment with business and risk strategy.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with an ability to translate complex risk concepts into actionable insights.
  • Strong Excel / google Sheets skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels; proficiency in German is a strong advantage for interacting with local regulators and stakeholders.
