Job Description

As a Backup Architect with expertise in Commvault, you will be responsible for the design, optimization, automation, and governance of enterprise backup and recovery systems. Your critical role ensures data availability, business continuity, and compliance with global data protection regulations. You will lead architecture decisions, guide operational teams, and support transformation initiatives, particularly within hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + Azure), while also defining technical roadmaps, creating automation scripts, and enforcing data retention policies.
Must have:
  • Architect and lead the design of scalable and resilient backup solutions using Commvault.
  • Define the technical roadmap and governance strategy for data protection and backup in hybrid environments.
  • Create automation scripts and policies to streamline backup, restore, and archival processes.
  • Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and continuous improvement of backup operations.
  • Define and enforce retention, disaster recovery, and archival policies in line with business requirements and compliance standards.
  • Design and test disaster recovery (DR) scenarios and support DR drills.
  • Lead platform migrations, version upgrades, and patching with minimal service disruption.
  • Integrate Commvault with cloud-native services (especially Azure Backup, Blob storage) for cloud backup and archival use cases.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec and Governance teams to implement cyber resiliency features like air-gapped backups, encryption, immutable storage, and ransomware protection.
  • Provide architectural oversight and mentoring to Backup Administrators and cross-functional infrastructure teams.
  • Monitor KPIs and generate dashboards/reports on backup job health, storage trends, and SLA adherence.

You will lead architecture decisions, guide operational teams, and support transformation initiatives, particularly within hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + Azure).

Task and Responsibilities:

  • Architect and lead the design of scalable and resilient backup solutions using Commvault.
  • Define the technical roadmap and governance strategy for data protection and backup in hybrid environments.
  • Create automation scripts and policies to streamline backup, restore, and archival processes.
  • Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and continuous improvement of backup operations.
  • Define and enforce retention, disaster recovery, and archival policies in line with business requirements and compliance standards.
  • Design and test disaster recovery (DR) scenarios and support DR drills.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 8+ years of experience in backup architecture and enterprise data protection roles.
  • Strong expertise in Commvault platform architecture and administration (CommCell Console, Media Agents, Storage Policies, Deduplication, etc.).
  • Experience with Commvault HyperScale, Commvault/Azure hybrid configurations, and cloud-to-cloud backups.
  • Familiarity with data compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001) related to data protection.
  • Strong scripting/automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, or Commvault Command Line Interface (CLI).
  • Sound knowledge of backup storage infrastructure, including disk, tape, NAS, SAN, and cloud tiers.
  • Working experience with other backup platforms like Veritas NetBackup and Cohesity (optional).
  • Proficient in incident/change/problem management processes (preferably ITIL Certified).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
