Job Description

Scout Motors is seeking a Concept Engineer to support the concept architecture development for upcoming vehicle programs. This role involves collaborating with design and engineering teams to create innovative, visually appealing, and feasible exterior and interior concepts. You will partner with other engineering teams to propose alternate solutions for engineering and functional challenges through 3D CAD packaging, prioritizing customer experience. Responsibilities include establishing vehicle occupant packaging, benchmarking competitive executions, and evolving CAD data sets throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related field, with 4+ years of experience in concept engineering within the automotive industry, proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5, TeamCenter, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX), Microsoft Office Suite, JIRA, and familiarity with automotive industry safety standards.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Support the concept architecture development for a given program.
  • Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to establish innovative, visually appealing and feasible exterior and interior concepts
  • Partner with other engineering teams to come up with alternate solutions to engineering & functional challenges through creation of 3D CAD packaging proposals, keeping customer experience top of mind
  • Establish vehicle occupant packaging including number of occupants, positioning of the body, and basic roominess targets
  • Benchmark competitive executions for packaging through use of tools such as A2MAC1
  • Iteratively work with the design and engineering teams to evolve CAD data sets throughout the development lifecycle to improve customer experience and feasibility
  • Create detailed requirement documentation, including 2D and 3D drawings, specifications, and design guidelines for components.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance in office with in-person meetings and events. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in concept engineering, specifically with concept lead platforms/variants, component selection and modification in the automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA V5, TeamCenter, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX, and other design visualization tools
  • Proficiency in office products such as Microsoft Office Suite and JIRA
  • Familiarity with automotive industry safety standards and regulations including GCIE, SAE, and C/FMVSS
  • Proven ability to work in a truly cross-functional and global environment

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $110,000.00 - $132,500.00
