Role: Controller

THE OPPORTUNITY
This role is a 12-16 month maternity leave backfill, starting Aug 2025.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Controller to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for assisting in financial planning, analysis, forecasting activities, delivering actionable insights, and supporting strategic decision-making processes. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record in corporate finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the financial health of the organization with specific responsibilities for Accounting, Tax, Treasury, compliance and controls
- Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions incl Balance sheet and reporting with UK and local teams.
- Leading internal considerations on tax and accounting as well as external requirements with CRA and advisory firms
- Liaise with auditors coordinating annual review and to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained.
- Lead the treasury and banking functions along with the VP Finance
- Manage and comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Correspond with various other departments, discussing company plans and agreeing on future paths to be taken.
- Staff Supervision (1x local and 2x indirect UK)
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Controller 10+ years accounting and finance
- Advanced degree in Accounting – CPA preferred
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year end close process
- Excellent attention to detail and connecting dots across internal company data
- Proficient user of finance software – Workday, and Microsoft Office suite
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
- A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
- Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
