Role Purpose
The Digital Manufacturing Engineer (DME) enables right‑first‑time industrialization by deploying Digital Minimum Standards (DMS), integrating Teamcenter PLM with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and driving data integrity across the production toolchain. The role supports factory and MRO environments, with preference for experience supporting manufacturing or repair operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own deployment and audit of Digital Minimum Standards (DMS) across cells/lines; build gap‑closure plans with accountable owners and dates.
- Configure and support PLM–MES integration (Teamcenter → MES such as Siemens Opcenter/Simatic IT), ensuring MBOM, BOP/route and work instructions are correctly released and version‑controlled.
- Author and maintain digital work instructions, eBOM/MBOM alignments, routings, and traceability within Teamcenter and MES; ensure bi‑directional data fidelity (as‑planned ↔ as‑built).
- Validate master data (resources, tools, NC programs, CMM programs, characteristics) and link key characteristics to inspection plans within MES/quality modules.
- Support APQP/PPAP deliverables digitally (process flow, PFMEA, control plans, FAIR data capture) and enable automated evidence capture in MES.
- Create dashboards for RFT/OTD, WIP, cycle time, and genealogy using MES data and BI tools (e.g., Power BI); drive CI actions from insights.
- Lead change control for digital process content (ECR/ECO), ensuring correct baselines, effectivity, and impact assessment across PLM, MES, and SAP/ERP.
- Partner with HSE/Ergonomics to embed digital work standards that reduce risk and improve usability at the workstation.
- Coach engineers/technicians on DMS, PLM usage, MES transactions, and data quality expectations; develop quick‑reference guides and SOPs.
- Troubleshoot integration issues with IT/OT teams (connectivity, middleware, connectors, APIs); raise and manage defects through to closure.
Qualifications & Experience
- HNC/HND/Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or similar.
- 3+ years in digital manufacturing, industrialisation, or manufacturing engineering in aerospace or similarly regulated industry; experience with sites, suppliers, or standards preferred.
- Hands‑on with Teamcenter (MBOM/BOP/process planning, change management) and a shop‑floor MES (e.g., Siemens Opcenter/Simatic IT MES); knowledge of SAP/ERP integration desirable.
- Working knowledge of APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, control plans, MSA/SPC, FAIRs, and configuration control.
- Understanding of quality and regulatory frameworks (AS9100; EASA Part 21/145) and data security/export control awareness.
- Ability to read engineering drawings/CAD; familiarity with Tecnomatix (Process Designer/Process Simulate/Plant Simulation) is a plus.
Desirable
- Experience deploying Digital Minimum Standards within OEM or Tier‑1 aerospace environments.
- Power BI (data models, DAX) for MES/PLM analytics and KPI reporting.
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) with demonstrated digital CI benefits (cycle‑time, RFT, WIP).
- Scripting/automation (e.g., Python, SQL, low‑code) to streamline data setup and validation.
- Knowledge of nonconformance/quality workflows (QNs, concessions) and digital dispositioning.
Outcomes & KPIs
- DMS audit closure rate and sustained conformance.
- RFT/OTD improvement attributed to digital process adoption.
- Reduction in master‑data defects and rework related to PLM–MES misalignment.
- Cycle‑time/WIP reduction via electronic work instructions and right‑first‑time routing.
- Traceability/genealogy completeness and FAIR/PPAP digital evidence capture rate.
