Job Description

The Global Medical Writing Director leads the Global Medical Affairs department in producing clear, accurate scientific documents for key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and internal teams. Responsibilities include developing evidence dissemination strategies, leading the Scientific Writing team, collaborating with Medical Affairs and cross-functional teams, creating scientific content, overseeing publications, participating in scientific communication activities, and tracking the impact of evidence dissemination. The role ensures that relevant evidence supports clinical decision-making and promotes the organization's scientific credibility.
Must have:
  • Medical or Science degree (PhD, MD) in microbiology or molecular biology.
  • 5+ years of experience in scientific writing or communications.
  • 2+ years of experience in academic setting or as a scientist.
  • 5+ years of experience in direct people leadership.
  • Leadership skills including decision-making and strategic planning.
Good to have:
  • Background in medical affairs, clinical research, or evidence generation.
  • Background in infectious disease diagnostics.

Job Details

The Global Medical Writing Director is a critical member of the scientific team and leads the Global Medical Affairs department in the development of clear, accurate, and scientifically credible documents that communicate complex clinical, medical and scientific data to key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals (HCPs), internal teams, and external audiences. This role ensures that robust, accurate, and relevant evidence is strategically shared to support clinical decision-making, inform stakeholders, and promote the scientific credibility of the organization.

 

Primary Duties

  1. Develop evidence dissemination strategies to disseminate clinical, real-world and scientific evidence to internal and external stakeholders aligned with broader Medical Affairs Strategy and Company objectives and priorities
  2. Lead the Scientific Writing team, manage and mentor team members, contribute to the scientific process, and oversee the evidence dissemination budget
  3. Collaborate closely with Medical Affairs Teams (Medical Strategy & Insights, Evidence Generation and Biostatistics & Data Management) and other relevant cross-functional teams (e.g. Clinical Operations, Clinical Development) to ensure alignment between medical writing activities and program goals
  4. Create, review, and manage scientific content, including manuscripts, abstracts, white papers, and posters, convert relevant data and information into a form that meets writing project requirements and translate complex clinical data into clear, impactful materials tailored to the audience’s level of expertise.
  5. Oversee the development, submission, and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts, and presentations, work with internal teams, and external partners to prepare and publish high-quality research outputs.
  6. Participate in outward facing scientific communication activities, such as conferences, as a part of the scientific process of sharing our research findings
  7. Lead monitoring and impact measurements by tracking the effectiveness and reach of evidence dissemination activities using metrics such as publication citations, conference attendance, or engagement analytics and gathering feedback from stakeholders to refine strategies and improve the quality of materials

 

Minimum Experience

  • Medical or Science degree (PhD, MD) is required in microbiology or molecular biology
  • 5+ years of experience in scientific writing, publication management, or scientific communications or several publications, ideally as the first author
  • 2+ years of experience in academic setting or as a scientist
  • 5+ years of experience in direct people leadership
  • Background in medical affairs, clinical research, or evidence generation is highly preferred
  • Background in infectious disease diagnostics is highly preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Leadership skills including decision-making, active listening, strategic planning and emotional intelligence
  • Experience in working with collaborative, cross-functional teams, including project management experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Superior attention to detail.
