About the Role:

As the Director of Design at 1Weather, you will define and lead the design vision for one of the most widely used consumer apps in the category. If you are someone who thrives at the intersection of craft, product thinking, and systems design, while being equally comfortable shaping long-term product strategy and rolling up your sleeves to deliver exceptional user experiences, this could be for you.

You’ll also partner closely with product and engineering counterparts, influencing decision-making across disciplines, and ensuring design is always championed in conversations that impact millions of global users. This role will be based out of Bengaluru.

What You’ll be Doing ( Responsibilities ):

• Strategic Design Leadership: Define and evolve the design vision and frameworks that ensure scalable, cohesive, and delightful experiences across platforms.
• Lead and Mentor: Grow, inspire, and guide a team of UX Designers, building a culture of craft, curiosity, empathy, and excellence.
• Hands-On Execution Beyond Ma & just: Balance vision with action - contributing directly to design when needed, particularly on high-impact, complex, or time-sensitive challenges.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and Researchers to co-create solutions, aligning user needs, technical possibilities, and business goals.
• User Empathy & Behaviour Insights: Observe user behaviour at scale, identify patterns, and translate them into actionable insights that guide both product direction and design craft.
• Continuous Learning & Innovation: Stay curious, experimenting with new tools, technologies, and design methodologies (including AI-driven or predictive UX) to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
• Product Thinking: Ensure design solutions are not only elegant and intuitive but also strategically aligned with long-term product and business objectives.
• Systems & Consistency: Build and maintain design systems that balance scalability, brand identity, and usability across platforms.
• Communication & Storytelling: Clearly articulate design rationale, craft compelling narratives, and drive alignment across stakeholders at all levels.

What We’re Looking For( Qualification ):

• 8+ years of proven experience in UX and product design, with at least 3 years in a design leadership role.
• Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end product design, with emphasis on systems thinking, usability, and consumer engagement at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to lead design in a fast-paced, consumer-first environment, navigating ambiguity and delivering both strategic and tactical outcomes.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners, especially product and engineering, to deliver holistic user experiences.
• Track record of leveraging user research and behavioral insights to inform design decisions.
• Ability to craft and evolve design systems and frameworks that support long-term scalability.
• Strong communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
• A mindset of continuous learning, keeping you curious, adaptive, and eager to bring new practices that improve both the product and the team.

Education & Background

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), Interaction Design, or a related field.
• Equivalent practical experience will also be considered, especially with a strong portfolio demonstrating impact at scale.
