Job Description
The Defense Policy Lead will be responsible for leading Scale’s AI policy engagement with the Pentagon and the National Security Apparatus. This role involves shaping programs at the DoD by securing funding lines and requirements, advising leadership on AI policies, building relationships with stakeholders, and monitoring policy changes impacting the business. The candidate should translate business objectives into policy wins. The ideal candidate will have experience in Defense Policy or government, and the ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously.

Defense Policy Lead–Washington, DC

As Scale continues to grow its Government Relations function, we are looking for a Defense Policy Lead to support our engagements with the National Security apparatus, Congress, and the Administration.
The successful candidate will have a history of successfully driving successful Policy outcomes, and the ability to connect business objectives to policy wins.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Scale’s AI policy engagement with the Pentagon and the National Security Apparatus
- Lead and support engagements with industry trade associations and other relevant groups on behalf of the Company
- Work with Public Sector Business Unit to successfully shape programs at the DoD by securing funding lines, requirements and other items in support of growing our business
- Work to understand business objectives related to portfolio and translate them into Policy wins
- Assist in the formation of Scale’s government relations strategy and priorities
- Advise and brief Scale Leadership on policies impacting artificial intelligence policy
- Build relationships with relevant stakeholders
- Monitor policy, and regulatory changes for potential impact to Scale’s business
Required skills and qualifications:
- Between 4-6 years experience in Defense Policy or working in the Government
- Experience successfully securing consensus for priorities at trade associations, standards bodies
- Experience leading company response to Rulemakings, Request for Comments, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Previous technical experience such as publishing research/peer reviewed paper, covering technology policy as an issue area within the Government, working at a technical Government Agency within the Executive Branch, or experience in the technology sector
- A history of managing multiple works streams simultaneously
