The Domain Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring Telstra systems deliver an exceptional experience for consumer and business customers. This collaborative role focuses on the seamless integration of platforms, applications, services, and products to enhance Telstra's competitive edge. The specialist will implement best practices in CICD and DevOps for Telstra's 5G Core, continuously expanding their knowledge of 5G Core functions and supporting services. Proficiency in automation and scripting, such as Python and Ansible, is essential and beneficial. The role involves working with various teams including cross-domains, planners, incident management, operations, engineering, and technology, along with some customer interaction.
Must have:
  • Expertise in Mobile Packet core
  • Experience in DevOps tooling
  • Experience implementing CICD
  • Strong programming skills in Ansible/Python
  • Experience with cloud and IP Networking
  • Managing mission critical apps in cloud
  • Experience in Agile and scrum
  • Strong communication skills

The Domain Specialist contributes to ensuring that Telstra systems deliver a superior experience for our consumer and business customers. The role works collaboratively to ensure the connection between platforms, applications, services and products provides a seamless experience that drives Telstra’s competitive advantage.

Job Description

You will implement best practices in CICD and DevOps into the execution and delivery of Telstra’s cutting edge containerised 5G Core. You will be driven to continually grow your understanding of 5G Core functions and the product enabling services they support. Knowledge of automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is essential and advantageous.

You will work with cross domains, planners, incident management, operations, engineering, and technology teams, as well as some Customer interaction associated directly or otherwise.

Working alongside the Network DevOps Leads, you will contribute to and implement reusable patterns and frameworks that will accelerate our delivery of value to the wider business and to customers and become a leader yourself at Australia’s leading telecommunications provider.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Domain Specialist, you will leverage your expertise in software and network engineering, with a focus on Mobile Packet core. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the build, install, integration and management /support of the following 5G Packet Core network functions (e.g., MME, PGW, SGW, AMF, SMF, UPF)

  • Working closely with the Mission Technical Product Owner (TPO), Product Managers, and senior technical leads to deliver requirements for quarterly Operational Key Results (OKRs).

  • Collaborating with senior Engineers to address business needs and develop solutions.

  • Contribute to the transitioning of technologies from trials and PoCs into the mainstream networks or for specialised deployments.

  • Identify and promote best practice in Knowledge Management and Innovation.

  • Supporting DevOps activities, including providing out-of-hours support through a recall roster.

 

Key Skills

  • Experience in DevOps tooling and ways of working

  • Experience using and implementing CICD (continuous integration, delivery, and deployment)

  • Strong programming skills in Ansible and/or Python for the development of automation.

  • Experience with cloud and IP Networking

  • Managing mission critical applications in a cloud environment

  • Experience in Agile and scrum methodologies

  • Ready to continuously learn and share learnings

  • Strong communication skills
