Toast is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to strategically lead a high-impact team. We're looking for someone with a deep passion for optimizing and evolving enterprise systems, focusing specifically on Accounting, Tax, and Invoicing, while designing architecture that is built for future growth. This role is critical for scaling our core financial business systems to efficiently support Toast's massive and rapid expansions. You will guide a team of engineers working across Netsuite, Vertex, Zuora, Middleware (Java, Camel), delivering systems that power seamless financial workflows. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance technical depth with strong execution, ensuring high quality and velocity while fostering team growth.

About this roll\* (Responsibilities)

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers working on mission-critical systems that support financial business systems.
• Provide technical guidance and stay hands-on when needed, especially in critical design and code reviews.
• Drive the execution of projects end-to-end, removing roadblocks, managing dependencies, and ensuring timely delivery.
• Translates business concepts and requirements into software solutions, ensuring accurate documentation and alignment with stakeholders.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Business Systems teams to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Champion engineering excellence by upholding a high bar for code quality, testing, performance, and maintainability.
• Identify and implement improvements in system architecture, development practices, and team workflows.
• Support the team’s career development, fostering a culture of growth, ownership, and accountability.

Do you have the right ingredients? (Requirements)

• Bachelors’ degree in business or computer science discipline
• 2-5 years proven experience leading software engineering teams with a track record of shipping reliable, scalable applications.
• Strong technical background with full stack solutions including Netsuite, Vertex, Zuora, Middleware (Java, Camel) integrations with Salesforce.
• Ability to translate business goals into technical strategy, making smart tradeoffs between speed, scope, and quality.
• Hands-on coding or debugging when necessary—you know when to roll up your sleeves.
• Experience with high-traffic applications and continuous development/deployment
• Experience with distributed systems and asynchronous workloads
• A bias for action, strong communication skills, and the ability to align and motivate teams.
• Experience in eCommerce or sales tooling domains is a strong plus.

• Knowledge of business processes including areas such as General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Financial Reporting, Tax, and Billing

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible).

Pay Range

$155,000—$248,000 USD
