Job Description

As an Engineering Manager at Abstraction, you'll lead and mentor a team of programmers, fostering a positive and productive environment. Strategic alignment with the Engineering Director on current and upcoming projects is key, requiring risk assessment and communication. Cross-functional collaboration and conflict resolution are also essential components of this role. The ideal candidate possesses 1-2 years of experience managing technical teams, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proven experience coaching and mentoring engineers.

As an Engineering Manager you will be primarily focused on leading and mentoring a team of programmers, fostering a positive and productive work environment. You will provide guidance, support, and career development opportunities, ensuring that team members are motivated and equipped to excel. By nurturing talent and facilitating effective collaboration, you will help the team achieve technical excellence and deliver high-quality game features. Your role is crucial in maintaining team morale, resolving conflicts, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. 

Responsibilities: 

People Management: 

  • Mentor and coach team members', managing career expectations, performance and level of happiness. 

  • Inspires and promotes a culture of continuous learning and growth. 

  • Challenges the team processes looking for ways to improve. 

  • Guides others in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks. 

  • Identify and resolve issues affecting team alignment, performance, and engagement, ensuring overall success and progress 

Strategy: 

  • Work with the Engineering Director and other Engineering Managers to align on the overall strategy for current and upcoming projects, mitigating future potential risks. 

  • Communicates strategic context to team members, ensuring alignment with goals. 

  • Assesses the potential impact of likelihood of risks 

  • Analyzes current trends, market conditions, and business objectives.goals. 

Collaboration: 

  • Create and implement strategies for cross-functional collaboration at the organizational level. 

  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships across the organization. 

  • Help identify and address cross-team dependencies and challenges. 

  • Fosters a collaborative environment and encourages open communication. 

  • Resolves minor conflicts and aligns team efforts with shared goals. 

 

Knowledge & Experience  

  • 1-2 years’ experience managing small to mid-sized technical teams. 

  • Has the ability to understand technical problems and communicate potential solutions to the team. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Has experience coaching and mentoring engineers, supporting them in their growth. 

  • Understands the value of clear communication, feedback and collaborative support. 

  • Experience recruiting and developing talent. 

  • Strong conflict management skills
