Job Description

The Equipment Engineering Technician Lead will be responsible for leading shift technicians, providing updates on critical tasks, and guiding them on troubleshooting. They will supervise technicians regarding attendance and performance, maintain wafer processing tools, coordinate maintenance, and train new team members. The role involves working independently and in a team environment, utilizing troubleshooting skills, and collaborating with various departments. The candidate must be able to work in a clean room environment and adhere to safety and quality standards. They will also need to balance planned and unplanned activities in a timely and professional manner, along with effectively communicating the task's progress and completion.
Must have:
  • Lead and guide a team of technicians.
  • Practical knowledge of electronics, mechanics, and computers.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
  • Ability to set up and interpret test equipment output.
  • Must meet requirements for Emergency Response Team.
  • Initial responder for unscheduled down tools.
Good to have:
  • Prior experience in a Lead or Supervisory role is preferred.
  • Maintenance knowledge in multiple equipment types.
  • Understanding of processes to interface with the process team.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members.

Job Details

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead shift technicians on daily priorities and assignments provided by Equipment Engineers and Manager
  • Follow up and provide updates on critical tasks and projects.
  • Guide and mentor shift technicians on troubleshooting.
  • Supervise shift technician in regard to attendance and performance.
  • Maintain various wafer processing tools as direct by management, equipment engineers and or senior technicians. 
  • Ability to be able to run equipment to validate corrective actions were successful.   
  • Coordinate/perform both reactive maintenance and scheduled preventive maintenance on various wafer and assembly processing tools to maintain optimal uptime. This includes all support equipment such as pumps, power supplies, and gas cabinets.
  • Track, record and communicate progress of maintenance work being performed on Fab, Back End and Assembly equipment.
  • Train and mentor new team members 
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment when required.
  • Applies appropriate troubleshooting skills based to correctly repair common failures. 
  • Assist senior technicians and engineers in data collection to resolve reoccurring equipment issues
  • Utilize available training materials, aids, and certification requirements to assist in meeting assigned personal improvement goals.
  • Participates in team meetings for continuous improvements. Able to attend vendor offsite training as required
  • Be a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT)
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Facilities, Test Engineering and other Departments 

Education & Experience

Preferred Minimum Education 

  • Military Electronics certification or AS technical degree in electronics preferred

Expected Minimum Years of Related Experience 

  • 7+ years experience maintaining wafer processing equipment

Prior experience in a Lead or Supervisory role is preferred

Preferred: maintenance knowledgeable in multiple of the following equipment:

  • TEL Mark Vz, ACT 8, ASML 5500, Plasmatherm LAPECVD, Matrix asher, Koyo vertical furnace, Lam rainbow, Disco Grinder/Saws, WET Etch Process, RENA Semi Auto Wet System, and MEI SRD, MPI Diesort tools, Camtek Eagle AVI, Chroma / EG Probers

Skills

  • Leadership skill to direct and guide team of technicians
  • Practical knowledge and application of electronics, mechanics, vacuum theory, math, computers, and Testing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs (i.e. Microsoft products) 
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and ability to learn the operational concepts of systems and how to perform diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to solve more complex operational and system problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, flow charts and cause and effect diagrams.
  • Ability to set up, operate and interpret output of test equipment to include, but not limited to oscilloscopes, digital volt-ohm meters, current and voltage sources and chart recorders.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to established company and departmental policies pertaining to day-to-day operations.
  •  Must meet requirements for Emergency response team
  • Problem Solving: Able to troubleshoot intermediate issues with little to no guidance
  • Initial responder for unscheduled down tools
  • Knowledge of how to read electronic schematics and mechanical blueprints.
  • Understand and follow both written procedures and verbal instructions, in the preventive maintenance of wafer fab equipment. 
  • Individual must be self-motivated and be able to organize and manage his/her daily work as directed by management, Equipment Engineer and or senior technicians. 
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment 
  • Organization: Able to balance planned and unplanned activities in a timely, professional manner.
  • Able to effectively communicate progress and completion of task
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Facilities, Test Engineering and other Departments 

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical instructions
  • Ability to respond to internal and external inquiries. 
  • Understand and apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms for data analysis as required. 
  • Ability to problem solve, collect data, establish facts to draw valid solutions. 
  • Able to interpret technical instructions both written and verbal
  • Able to communicate both verbally and written with internal customers 
  • Has a basic understanding of processes being ran on tool sets to interface with process team
  • Able to mentor junior team members

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to… 
    • Work in a Class 100/1000 clean room
    • Wear full clean room attire
    • Work with and/or around chemicals such as acids and solids
    • Work with and/or around gases, both hazardous and non-hazardous.
    • Stand for up to 10 hours at a time
    • Lift 50 pounds or push/pull up to 150 pounds
    • Flexibility to work Monday – Friday 9.5 hours shifts and when needed alternate to a compressed shift (alternate between 3 and 4 consecutive 12-hour shifts weekly)
    • Must be able to pass and maintain an ERT clearance through periodic physicals.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to… 
    • Work in a Class 100/1000 clean room
    • Wear full clean room attire
    • Work with and/or around chemicals such as acids and solids
    • Work with and/or around gases, both hazardous and non-hazardous.
    • Stand for up to 10 hours at a time
    • Lift 50 pounds or push/pull up to 150 pounds
    • Work a compressed shift (alternate between 3 and 4 consecutive 12-hour shifts weekly)
    • Must be able to pass and maintain an ERT clearance through periodic physicals.
