Job Summary

Arm is seeking an expert Hardware Platform Power Engineer/Applications Engineer to join its Packaging, Boards and Multiphysics team. This role involves working with systems incorporating Arm processors, focusing on platform power design and distribution for System-on-Chip (SoC). The engineer will develop hardware platform prototypes to validate and demonstrate Arm's latest IP products, collaborating on power solutions, designing and optimizing DC-DC power solutions, and validating them in the lab.

Must Have

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate, analyze, and develop platform power solutions.
  • Work with SoC Power Architects to develop and support board level power VR/PMIC implementations.
  • Design, simulate, and optimize high-efficiency board level DC-DC power solutions.
  • Undertake specifications, schematic design, PCB layout reviews, and component selection.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on layout optimization, PDN and telemetry requirements.
  • Assist with customer design-in of VR/PMIC solutions for reference designs.
  • Develop application reference circuits and power management solutions for various markets.
  • Validate power solutions in the lab using oscilloscopes, e-loads, load slammers.
  • Contribute to datasheets, application notes, and design guides.
  • Stay updated on industry trends in energy efficient power electronics.
  • 8+ years experience in platform level power distribution and design.
  • Proficiency in DC-DC converter topologies, PWM controllers, MOSFET, and power stages.
  • Experience with simulation tools like Simplis, SPICE, PowerDC, Ansys SIWave.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB layout considerations, PDN and PI analysis.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment for power integrity testing and dynamic load testing.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and thermal solutions.

Good to Have

  • Experience in a high-level scripting language e.g. Python for test automation.

You will be involved with systems incorporating Arm processors, focusing on platform power design and distribution for System-on-Chip (SoC). We are working at the forefront of embedded compute focusing on developing hardware platform prototypes to validate and demonstrate Arm's latest IP products.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams across multiple geographies to evaluate, analyze and develop platform power solutions for PCB and silicon package integration. Work with the SoC Power Architects to develop and support board level power VR/PMIC implementations for ARM System on Chip solutions.
  • Design, simulate, and optimize high-efficiency board level DC-DC power solutions (e.g., multi-phase buck converters, VRM, PMICs) for high-performance Arm based platforms
  • Undertake specifications, schematic design, PCB layout reviews, and component selection to meet power delivery requirements (ripple, noise, transient response, efficiency)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including architects, thermal, layout, and SI/PI specialists—on layout optimization, PDN and telemetry requirements
  • Assist with customer design-in of VR/PMIC solutions for reference designs, ensuring feature alignment and cost optimized solutions
  • Develop application reference circuits and power management solutions for high performance compute, networking, server and cloud markets
  • Validate power solutions in the lab using oscilloscopes, e-loads, load slammers etc
  • Contribute to datasheets, application notes and design guides
  • Stay updated on industry trends in energy efficient power electronics

Required Skills and Experience :

  • 8+ years of experience in platform level power distribution and design
  • Proficiency in DC-DC converter topologies (buck, boost, multiphase), PWM controllers, MOSFET, and power stages. Knowledge of telemetry interfaces (PMBus, SMBus, AVBus)
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Simplis, SPICE, PowerDC, Ansys SIWave)
  • Strong knowledge of PCB layout considerations for power circuits (e.g., parasitic reduction), PDN and PI analysis capability
  • Familiarity with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and power integrity test setups and dynamic load testing/slamming techniques
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques in power designs
  • Knowledge of thermal solutions for high-power-density systems
  • Problem-solving attitude, teamwork

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :

  • Experience in a high-level scripting language e.g. Python for test automation
