Job Description

Cubic Games, part of GDEV, is seeking a Lead Game Designer for their unannounced cross-platform shooter. The role involves owning the full lifecycle of key features, from concept to post-analysis, and designing meta-systems like progression, monetization, and Battle Pass. You will collaborate with data analysts and other team members to integrate features and optimize existing mechanics for player retention, engagement, and monetization. The ideal candidate has experience in feature ownership, systemic game design, systems thinking, and balancing, progression systems, core game loops, and monetization mechanics.
Must have:

Our mission is crystal clear: we specialize in creating distinctive pixel games. Our team is looking for a level designer to work on our flagship project, Pixel Gun 3D. This popular shooter is played by over 5 million users worldwide every month.

We are looking for a Lead Game Designer who will take ownership of key features and contribute to the development of our ambitious, unannounced cross-platform shooter with unique mechanics. Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of features, from concept and GDD to release and post-analysis.
  • Design and refine meta-systems such as progression, monetization, Battle Pass, events, and LiveOps.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to evaluate metrics, form hypotheses, and implement improvements.
  • Work closely with designers, programmers, and artists to integrate features seamlessly into the game.
  • Optimize and enhance existing mechanics to improve retention, engagement, and monetization.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in feature ownership, managing the full development cycle from concept to post-launch analysis.
  • Deep understanding of systemic game design and the interplay between various game mechanics.
  • Ability to break down mechanics, analyze their impact on key metrics, and refine them accordingly.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to evaluate how mechanics affect the overall gameplay experience.
  • Experience with balancing, progression systems, core game loops, and monetization mechanics.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in writing structured and detailed GDDs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to align with different departments.
  • Solid understanding of mobile game development and key industry metrics.
  • Passion for action games and shooters.
  • Experience working with game engines.
