We are arx anima, an animation studio based in Vienna, Frankfurt, Leipzig & Madrid and have been producing animation cinema productions for years. We also have the courage to try every new technical challenge and innovation.
Be it pioneering in lighting with Houdini Solaris / USD workflows, the realisation of a high-end MoCap studio, or the construction of the largest render farm in Austria. And besides all the R&D, features, and series we love to work on creatively animated commercials and other service work. For example, we just revived Mozart through an immersive 360° art projection about Vienna in his era.
The Lighting and Compositing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the final visual look of the animated project by guiding the lighting and compositing teams. They ensure that all shots meet the artistic and technical standards set by the director and production leadership. This role requires a combination of artistic sensitivity, technical knowledge, and strong leadership abilities.
Supervise the lighting and compositing departments, ensuring all shots achieve the desired visual quality and maintain continuity.
Define and oversee the lighting style and visual direction, in collaboration with the Director, Art Director, and CG Supervisor.
Maintain efficient workflows and best practices for lighting, rendering, and compositing.
Provide creative and technical leadership to artists, reviewing and approving work, offering feedback, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Collaborate with other department supervisors (Animation, FX, Layout, Assets) to ensure seamless integration of assets and consistency across the pipeline.
Work closely with the pipeline and TD teams to ensure tools and render setups are optimized for production needs.
Manage render performance and optimization, ensuring quality and efficiency.
Oversee color accuracy and consistency, from look development to final output.
Conduct regular shot and sequence reviews, supporting iterative improvements based on creative direction.
Proven experience in a supervisory role in lighting and compositing for feature animation, series, or VFX.
Strong artistic eye with a solid understanding of lighting, shading, color, composition, and cinematography.
Proficiency in industry-standard tools such as Houdini, Nuke, Maya
Understanding of render passes, AOVs, and multi-channel compositing techniques.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and lead a team in a fast-paced production environment.
Experience with stylized animation or photorealistic visual effects.
Familiarity with Python or scripting languages for automation and workflow improvements.
Understanding of color pipelines and color management (e.g., ACES).
