Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with Product Development Engineering and Designers to provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) support for new product definitions. This involves defining manufacturing methods with suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and safety, ensuring the toy functions as designed and is launched on time. Responsibilities include producing and guiding product designs for optimal manufacturing and assembly methods (DFMA), producing and configuring specifications, and working with the product engineering team to examine parts/components. The role also involves improving efficiency in manufacturing processes, evaluating and recommending process re-design, and assisting the Sourcing Team in evaluating supplier capabilities.
Must have:
  • Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Proven DFM and DMA expertise.
Good to have:
  • Toy or consumer goods experience.
  • CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

Job Description:

What will you work on?

Reporting to the Manager  Manufacturing Engineering, the Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with and as an integral part of the Product Development Engineering and Designers to achieve innovative DFM and DFA support for new product definition.  In addition, this role will work with the select suppliers to define manufacturing methods to guarantee the lowest cost while ensuring the toy functions as designed, meets all defined quality and safety requirements, and is launched on time.

How will you create impact?

Engineering

  • Produce and guide product designs to support optimum manufacturing and assembly methods (DFMA).
  • Expertise in producing and configuring specifications and effective RFI/RFQ packages.
  • Work with the product engineering team to examine parts/components to ascertain purpose, cost and value by utilizing knowledge of product design, development and cost engineering
  • Design new systems and processes for the introduction of new products or for the improvement of existing ones
  • A practical hands-on understanding of materials and material science is highly desired
  • Ideate and solve production and/or engineering and quality design problems
  • Act as liaison between Consumer Care Feedback group and Manufacturing Operations
  • Improve efficiency in the manufacturing processes through continuous improvement and OPEX techniques
  • Improve operational quality by evaluating and recommending process re-design and implement changes
  • Assist Sourcing Team for high complexity evaluation of supplier capabilities and qualification
  • Achieve “proof of concept” and understanding mass manufacturing constraints on new and high complexity products.

Project Management

  • Drive production schedules with suppliers and ensure there alignment with the entire product development timeline
  • Assist Spin Master product development engineers, and supplier production engineers to ensure all projects are delivered on-cost, on-spec, and on-time.
  • Be instrumental in the effective roll-out of global initiatives related to Manufacturing. E.g. Global Tooling Strategy, Global standardization of specifications, sub-assemblies, components and others.
  • Understand and communicate product specifications to our selected suppliers
  • Use MS Project or similar and other tools to manage track key deliverables and proactively resolve future issues to keep products on track, on cost, and on specification
  • Some travel to client sites will be required

What are your skills and experience?

  • Manufacturing Engineering, Operations or Product Development Engineering experience
  • Toy or consumer goods experience as asset but not necessary.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing processes, including assembly and testing
  • Proven DFM and DMA expertise.  DFMEA an asset.
  • Desired: CAD skills. Preferably Solid works.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.   Fluency in Spanish mandatory
