Job Description

The Manufacturing Technician will support crystal and laser subsystems development and sustain manufacturing operations in the Crystal Growth department. Responsibilities include preparing raw materials, logging process data, evaluating the final product, participating in equipment maintenance, and assisting in process improvements. The role requires working safely within a controlled environment and collaborating with a team across manufacturing operations and R&D. The technician will also maintain order and cleanliness in the crystal growth and charge preparation areas.
Must have:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent GED, some college preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing or laboratory environment.
  • Technically inclined with good mechanical skills.
  • Strong fine motor manipulation ability and hand-eye coordination.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with coworkers.
  • Computer-literate to operate computer-controlled equipment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Great attention to detail.
Good to have:
  • Hands-on experience handling chemicals in a chemistry lab, clean room, or semiconductor environments.
  • Technical Associates degree in any STEM field.
  • Previous experience in hot temperature processes, such as glass or material processes.
  • Familiarity with bulk crystal growth techniques.
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams.
  • Desire to strive for excellence, be willing to cross train and accept change.

Job Details

At Coherent Budd Lake, N.J. we develop crystals and laser subsystems for many applications. We are seeking a Crystal Growth Technician to support development and sustain manufacturing operations in our Crystal Growth department which enable the production of high-quality crystals used in our products throughout the world. The Candidate will assume ownership of delegated departmental responsibilities and participate in continuous process improvement efforts. This position will be highly focused on input process activities including material characterization in addition to cross training on several other process areas and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare raw materials, seeds, and hot zone components for crystal growth.
  • Log process data into run sheets and crystal growth database.
  • Evaluate and characterizes final product.
  • Participate in the equipment maintenance programs. 
  • Assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
  • Support engineering activities in process improvements.
  • Work safely under strict safety guidelines in a controlled environment.
  • Function within a team environment; communicate, collaborate, and interact across manufacturing operations and R&D
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in the crystal growth and charge preparation areas.

Education and Work Experience:              

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma required or equivalent GED, some college preferred
  • Some experience in manufacturing or laboratory environment
  • Must be technically inclined with good mechanical skills such as small hand tool use or basic electromechanical troubleshooting. 
  • Strong fine motor manipulation ability and good hand-eye coordination for careful adjustments to delicate components.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact efficiently with coworkers of varying technical levels such as engineers, technicians, supervisors, and managers.
  • Must be computer-literate to operate computer-controlled equipment and make data entries.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Great attention to detail.

Helpful Qualifications:
