Job Description

The Mold Setter will be responsible for setting up and operating level injection mold machines, including tool changeovers, in a safe and effective manner. This includes performing start-up and shut-down procedures on plastic injection molding machines, verifying correct setup of molds and auxiliary equipment, troubleshooting issues, changing robot end-of-arm tooling, and entering programming for robots. The role also involves writing preventative maintenance and tool room work orders, performing daily maintenance, troubleshooting and basic mechanical repairs, and helping to achieve scheduling targets while reducing scrap and integrating mold systems with continuous improvement activities.
Must have:
  • Perform start-up and shut-down on plastic injection molding machines.

  • Change robot end of arm tooling (EOAT) and enter programming.
  • Perform troubleshooting and basic mechanical repairs.

Job Summary:   
The Mold Setter will set up and operate level injection mold machines including tool changeovers in a safe and effective manner.   

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform start-up and shut-down on plastic injection molding machines and related equipment; this includes cleaning and maintenance. 
  • Must verify correct set-up of molds, processes and auxiliary equipment before the machine starts.  Troubleshoot issues to correct.
  • Install, connect and verify knock-out bars, limit switches, hydraulic lines, water lines and temperature control units.
  • Change robot end of arm tooling (EOAT) and enter programming for robots.
  • Write preventative maintenance (PM) and Tool Room Work Orders.
  • Perform daily PM at start up and shut down.
  • Perform troubleshooting and basic mechanical repairs resulting from process monitoring and part inspections to insure part conformity and quality.
  • Help to attain scheduling targets and communicate possible issues and deviations timely and appropriately.
  • Monitor and attempt to reduce scrap.
  • Integrate mold system with company’s continuous improvement activities including idea submissions, safety observations, 5S, adherence to standard work and data tracking

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external customers
  • Work effectively as part of a team to achieve established outcomes
  • Pay close attention to detail in all aspects of the job
  • Make decisions using available resources and sound judgement, relying on self before others
  • Ability to troubleshoot by determining causes of operating errors and equipment needed
  • Use reasoning to discover answers to problems
  • Generate or adapt equipment and technology to serve user needs
  • Operate overhead crane and be forklift/forktruck certified


 

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent and or completion of vocational training
  • 3 year experience in mold/die setting, preferably in plastic injection, medical environment
  • Familiar with common safety and personal protective equipment as well as OSHA safety rules

Hours: Monday-Friday 11:00 PM-7:00 AM-3rd shift

  • Frequent: Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Constant: Regular, predictable attendance is required
  • Constant:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for the full shift
  • Repeatedly lift to waist level and bends to 12 inches off of floor throughout shift
  • This position requires balance, bend/stoop, climb stairs, crawl, crouch, kneel, keyboard/type, push, pull, reach, reach above shoulder, repetitive motion as well as computer/mouse use.

     


Work Environment:

The work environment described is representative of what must be met by an employee successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The physical environment is indoors in a controlled climate manufacturing setting.  The noise level may be moderate to loud.
