This lead engineer position involves designing and developing Optical Sub-Assemblies (OSAs) for high-speed fiber optic transceivers. The role requires collaboration with transceiver module engineering, and optical, mechanical, RF design, process, and test engineers. The engineer will define OSA architecture, specify subcomponent development and production test requirements, and coordinate program schedules. The responsibilities include working with active components like laser diodes and passive optical components, and utilizing simulation skills. The candidate will also be expected to travel to Asia.
Must have:
  • Design and develop OSAs for high-speed fiber optics transceivers.
  • Collaborate with various engineering teams for OSA architecture.
  • Specify the development/production test requirements.
  • Good knowledge of Silicon photonics devices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Good to have:
  • Optical, thermal, RF simulation skills are highly desirable.
  • Experience on Silicon photonics application in transceivers.
  • Understanding of fiber-optic transmission and RF electronics.

Job Details

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • This is a lead engineer position responsible for designing and developing OSA (Optical Sub-Assembly) for highspeed fiber optics transceivers with high performance and high manufacturability.
  •  Working closely with the transceiver module engineering group to develop and define the OSA architecture, as well as optical, mechanical, RF design, process, and test engineers in OSA organization.
  •  Familiar with active components such as laser diode, PIN, PIC, etc. Work closely with both internal and external active/passive component suppliers to develop the necessary lasers, PDs, ASICs, PICs and passive optical components. Develop and define the specifications for these subcomponents used in the OSA design.
  • Specify the development/production test requirements. Hands-on experience on optoelectronic device test to understand performance and reliability corners.
  • Work with program management and various divisions within the company to coordinate program schedule. 
Education & Experience
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering / Physics / Optics or equivalent, 
  • or MS degree with 3+ year’s work experiences in related field (developing electrical/optical components for fiber optic communication). 
Skills
  • Optical, thermal, RF simulation skills are highly desirable
  • Good knowledge of Silicon photonics devices and experience on its application in transceivers.
  • Good understanding in the fiber-optic transmission and RF electronics for high-speed communication.
  • Good team player. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Working Conditions
  • The candidate will be expected to do some amount of travel to Asia
  • At least 3 days/week on site
