Job Description

As a Principal Engineer Manager in Cloud Site Reliability Engineering, you will be leading and mentoring Cloud teams, focusing on building and supporting the AWS cloud platform. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and building complex cloud services, ensuring efficient AWS Enterprise Scale Landing Zone platforms, and making decisions in areas such as observability, networking, virtualization, identity, security, business continuity, and disaster recovery. You will be involved in leading strategic projects, removing barriers to execution, and optimizing hybrid AWS Platform solutions, focusing on compute, network, storage, monitoring, security and automation. You will also collaborate with other engineering managers and stakeholders.
Must have:
  • Experience leading and mentoring Cloud teams/Communities.
  • 8+ years designing and implementing AWS solutions.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
Good to have:
  • Experience working in agile environments.
  • 8 years’ experience with Windows/Linux Servers.
  • Proactive incident management with Azure/AWS/GCP troubleshooting.
  • Sound understanding of financial markets.

Role Profile

  • In this role, you'll be joining our Site Reliability Engineering Team within Cloud Productivity & Engineering (CPE) as a Principal Engineer, Manager reporting directly to the SRE Senior Manager
  • This team focuses on building, developing, and supporting our AWS cloud platform to accelerate the time-to-market of innovative finance products.
  • Engage in designing, developing, and building complex cloud services and capabilities.
  • Work alongside architects, developers, and other engineers to ensure efficient AWS Enterprise Scale Landing Zone platforms.
  • Active involvement in decision making areas such as observability, networking, virtualisation, identity, security, business continuity, disaster recovery and governance.

Tech Profile/Essential Skills

  • Previous experience leading and mentoring Cloud teams/Communities of Practice.
  • Proven leadership skills, and capable of building and managing technical teams/comunities of practice.
  • 8 plus years’ experience in designing, developing, and implementing cloud and hybrid AWS Platform solutions.
  • Can demonstrate deep knowledge in setting up AWS Enterprise Scale Landing Zones and hands on experience with Microsoft’s Cloud Adoption Framework.
  • Prior experience in roles such as AWS administration, development, or AWS-focused DevOps
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud native components.
  • 5 years’ demonstrable experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, with a demonstrable experience of Agile principles, ceremonies and practices.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform, and using CI/CD tools such as Gitlab.
  • Excellent planning and communications skills and able to lead conversations with development and product teams.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record working in agile environments
  • 8 years’ hands on experience with Windows/Linux Servers.
  • Proactive incident management with Azure/AWS/GCP-based troubleshooting.
  • Sound understanding of financial markets.

Education and Professional Skills

  • Relevant Professional qualifications.
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related STEM degree.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide multiple communities of practices, including Lead Platform Enginerring managers and platform engineers, encouraging best practices in Azure/AWS/GCP administration, development, and DevOps processes.
  • Understands the vision and strategy and articulates it to the communitiy of practice leads and teams; the “why”, the business case, context, benefits any constraints etc.
  • Defines key features and platform enhancements needed to keep pace with business demand and own the product backlog.
  • Lead key strategic projects/iniatives to meet strategic outcomes and enable operational excellence. 
  • Removes barrier to execution, leads capacity planning and roadmap delivery.
  • Engineer and optimize hybrid AWS Platform solutions, focusing on but not limited to compute, network, storage, monitoring, security and automation.
  • Collaborate with Lead Platform Engineering Managers, architects, and other stakeholders in the implementation and future development of AWS Landing Zone platforms.
  • Provide deep technical expertise in IT operations areas, such as networking, virtualization, identity, security, compliance, and governance, ensuring these areas align with the long-term AWS Platform strategy.
