Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Principal Platformatization Cloud Engineer for its CDSS group. This role involves designing, developing, and delivering next-generation cloud automation technologies within CASB teams. The engineer will drive platformization by building standardized, self-service infrastructure platforms, deploy automation for large-scale infrastructure, and partner with teams to improve CI/CD processes. The position requires a leader who takes ownership, solves challenging technical problems, and fosters collaboration to achieve common goals in a quality-focused, dynamic engineering culture.
Must have:
  • Work with development teams to ensure application scalability and reliability.
  • Design, review, and enhance software architecture for scalability, reliability, cost, and performance.
  • Build standardized, self-service infrastructure platforms.
  • Deploy automation for provisioning and operating infrastructure at large scale.
  • Partner with teams to improve CI/CD processes and technology.
  • Mentor staff on large scale cloud deployments.
  • Drive the adoption of observability practices and a data-driven mindset.
  • Setup processes like on-call rotations, Postmortems, Run books.
  • Support, optimize, and deploy mission-critical production systems.
  • Improve site performance, monitoring, and overall stability of infrastructure.
  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 7+ years of industry experience in engineering.
  • Fluent scripting skills (Python or Bash) with deep Unix/Linux experience.
  • 4+ years working with Microservices architectures on Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Helm.
  • Experience managing AWS and GCP at scale.
  • Experience designing and maintaining API specifications (Swagger/OpenAPI) and frameworks (Apigee).
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Proficient in CI/CD platforms (GitlabCI, Jenkins, ArgoCD, CircleCI).
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems.
  • Implement and enforce network and cloud security best practices.
  • Drive observability initiatives using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry.
  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience with setting up and troubleshooting Nginx or Ingress Nginx.
  • Hands-on production experience with Kafka, MongoDB, Amazon Redshift, BigQuery.

Palo Alto Networks CDSS group is looking for a seasoned platformization and cloud automation engineer to design, develop and deliver next-generation technologies within our CASB teams. We are looking for leaders who take ownership of their area of focus, and who are driven to solve challenging technical problems using best practices, and state of the art technologies. Your Impact

  • Work with development teams to ensure that applications have scalability and reliability built-in from day one - agile is second nature to you and you’re excited to work in scrum teams and represent the DevOps perspective
  • Design, review and enhance software architecture to improve scalability, service reliability, cost, and performance - you’ve helped create services that are critical to their customers’ success
  • Drive platformization by building standardized, self-service infrastructure platforms that improve developer productivity, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Deploy automation for provisioning and operating infrastructure at large scale. You are experienced in cloud Infrastructure as Code concepts and have put them into production
  • Partner with teams to improve CI/CD processes and technology - Helping teams in delivering value early is what you strive for
  • Mentor members of the staff on large scale cloud deployments - you’re an expert in deploying in the cloud and can bring a teaching mindset to help others benefit from your experience
  • Drive the adoption of observability practices and a data-driven mindset - you love metrics, graphs, and gaining a deep understanding of why things happen in a system, helping others gain visibility into the things they build
  • Setup processes like on-call rotations, Postmortems, Run books to continue supporting the infrastructure owned by the SRE team while finding ways to reduce the time to resolution and improve the reliability of services
  • Support, optimize and deploy mission critical, front-end and back-end production
  • Improving site performance, monitoring, and overall stability of our infrastructure

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 7+ years of industry experience in engineering
  • Fluent scripting skills (preferably Python or Bash) with deep experience in Unix/Linux systems from kernel to shell and beyond.
  • 4+ years of working with Microservices architectures on Kubernetes
  • HandsOn experience with container native tools like Docker, Helm for managing workloads running in Kubernetes.
  • Experience managing AWS and GCP at scale, with knowledge of cloud-neutral connectivity between platforms.
  • Experience designing and maintaining API specifications using Swagger/OpenAPI, and working with API frameworks such as Apigee to enable secure, scalable integrations.
  • HandsOn experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, etc.
  • Proficient in CI/CD platforms like GitlabCI, Jenkins, ArgoCD, CircleCI etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems (processes, threads, concurrency, etc)
  • Implement and enforce network and cloud security best practices, serving as a security champion within the team.
  • Drive observability initiatives by implementing distributed tracing, standardized logging, dashboards, and profiling, leveraging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry to ensure SLA/SLO compliance
  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with setting up and troubleshooting Nginx or Ingress Nginx
  • Hands-on production experience with Kafka, MongoDB, Amazon Redshift, BigQuery;

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $147,000 - $235,000/YR. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
