Job Description

The Product Technical Writer will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation for the Make platform. This includes researching, writing, and publishing content for the Make Public Help Center and Developer Hub. The writer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, create API documentation, and ensure the content is user-friendly and accessible. They will also be involved in assessing and improving content based on feedback, developing style guides, and exploring innovative ways to present technical information. The writer should have a strong command of English, experience in technical documentation, and the ability to explain complex topics to a non-technical audience. They will also need to manage their work independently and be adaptable.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of experience in technical documentation

We are seeking a skilled, creative, flexible, and change-accepting Product Technical Writer to join our Documentation team. At Make Documentation, our mission is to equip users and partners with the knowledge and resources they need to confidently use our platform, reach their goals, and unlock the full potential of Make’s features.

We’re looking for a candidate who understands the importance of creating help content that resonates with our audience and supports them throughout their journey with Make. With a strong background in technical documentation, an eye for visual creativity, and a passion for learning, you will research, write, revise, and publish content to guide users in automating their work both within the product and through our help centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, write, review, revise, and publish technical documentation for the Make Public Help Center and Developer Hub.
  • Create clear and comprehensive API documentation to support users in integrating apps with our platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address customer documentation needs effectively.
  • Investigate platform features and apps, then create user-friendly explanations.
  • Ensure high-quality technical content through meticulous attention to detail and visual creativity.
  • Anticipate user needs to craft optimal learning experiences.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment throughout the content development process.
  • Craft microcopy and text for the product interface.
  • Regularly assess and improve content based on customer feedback. Proactively suggest new ideas based on feedback and personal insights
  • Develop and maintain style guides and documentation standards to ensure consistency.
  • Enhance writing and publishing processes and tools.
  • Develop creative and innovative ways to present and interact with technical content. Address content creation challenges by crafting unique solutions. Think outside the box to improve how users receive and engage with information.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in technical documentation, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills, with fluency and a strong command of grammar and vocabulary.
  • Proficiency in writing API documentation, with a solid understanding of industry standards and best practices.
  • Ability to research complex topics and explain them to a non-technical audience.
  • Flexibility to adapt writing tone and voice based on content needs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and visual creativity.
  • Skill in giving and receiving constructive feedback during reviews.
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews with subject-matter experts.
  • Capability to manage work independently from start to finish with minimal supervision.
  • Interest in programming concepts, automation, and computational logic is a plus.
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining authoring and publishing tools is advantageous.
