We are seeking a talented Principal Audio Algorithm Developer with software development experience in speech, audio, or automotive signal processing. This role involves designing new algorithms and improving existing features within the QNX Sound package. The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of signal processing, be able to innovate, implement ideas in C/C++, debug performance issues, and script offline tests. Projects will align with skills, interests, and company priorities.
Must have:
  • Develop and maintain audio signal processing libraries in C
  • Research and prototype algorithms in Python or MATLAB
  • Provide critical listening to audio quality
  • Conduct objective and automated test development and performance analysis
  • Be responsible for CPU and memory optimization
  • Provide technical guidance and support to customers
  • Submit patent applications and conference papers

  • Experience in the automotive industry

Are you the person we are looking for?

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual with software development experience in speech, audio, or automotive signal processing for the full-time role of Principal Audio Algorithm Developer. BlackBerry QNX is a market leader in embedded software for automotive audio systems, with products deployed in over 200 million vehicles worldwide. Our customers include many well-known automakers and Tier 1 suppliers. We develop, integrate, tune and license software libraries for full-duplex echo cancellation and noise reduction for hands-free calling, in-car communications, active noise control, engine sound synthesis, media playback optimization and chimes generation. With our latest product offering, QNX Sound, we are influencing the audio system architecture and features of the software-defined vehicles of the future.

What you will do

This role involves designing new algorithms and improving upon existing features within the QNX Sound package. You should have an excellent understanding of signal processing, be able to innovate and propose algorithmic solutions, comfortably implement your ideas in C/C++, debug performance issues using an IDE, have good critical listening abilities, and have some experience with scripting offline tests. Your projects will be appropriately based on your skills and aligned with your interests and company priorities. You will:

  • Develop and maintain audio signal processing libraries in C
  • Research and prototype algorithms in Python or MATLAB
  • Provide critical listening to audio quality
  • Conduct objective and automated test development and performance analysis
  • Be responsible for CPU and memory optimization
  • Providing technical guidance and support to customers
  • Submit patent applications and conference papers

You will have:

  • Excellent understanding of signal processing
  • Significant experience developing algorithms for speech, audio, or automotive signal processing
  • Experience developing a commercial embedded audio software product for mass production
  • Accomplished coding algorithms in C/C++ (preferred), Python or MATLAB
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Experience developing machine learning algorithms
  • Experience leading a team or mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience porting algorithms to Qualcomm, ADI, NXP or TI DSPs
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio or similar IDE
  • Bachelor's, Masters or PhD in a related field.

It would be great if you have experience in the automotive industry but this isn't essential.
