Job Description

The R&D Engineer II will contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of advanced capabilities for structural and multi-physics simulations within the Mechanical Business Unit (MBU). They will collaborate with a team of professionals to deliver high-performance solutions tailored to customer needs, with a focus on Finite Element Methods (FEM), Computational Mechanics, scientific programming, GPU acceleration, and high-performance computing (HPC). The role involves software optimization, integration of simulation technologies, and working closely with other functional teams. The engineer will also be expected to work with best practices and have an understanding of marketing requirements for products.
Must have:
  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience with commercial simulation software tools
  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages
  • Familiarity with parallel computing or HPC environments
Good to have:
  • Ph.D. in relevant Engineering field
  • Knowledge with object-oriented design and HPC frameworks
  • Knowledge and experience with coupled-physics analysis
  • Experience in large-scale commercial software development
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Engineer II to join our dynamic and collaborative Mechanical Business Unit (MBU). In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of advanced capabilities for structural and multi-physics simulations. You will work closely with a team of expert professionals to deliver high-performance solutions tailored to customer needs. 

This position requires a strong foundation in Finite Element Methods (FEM) and other Computational Mechanics principles, as well as proven skills in scientific programming, GPU acceleration, and high-performance computing (HPC). Ideal candidates will demonstrate a passion for innovation, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform software optimization and restructuring at the core physics solver level to support GPU/HPC adaptation for structural and multi-physics simulations.
  • Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of structural simulation software modules.
  • Collaborate with other functional teams to integrate and migrate simulation technologies and implementations.
  • Understands and employs best practices.
  • Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
  • Works under the general supervision of a development manager.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 2 years’ experience or MS
  • Solid experience with commercial engineering simulation software tools.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, or Fortran).
  • Familiarity with parallel computing, GPU programming, or HPC environments. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with object-oriented design, GPU-based computing, and HPC frameworks.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with coupled-physics analysis, composite material simulation, material damage modeling, or computational geometry.
  • Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
