Job Description

As a Senior Agency Director, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth in Japan, focusing on agency and client partnerships. You will lead the strategy for the region, promoting innovative programmatic products. This includes delivering commercial deals, creating and implementing strategies, and managing relationships with agencies and clients. You will be tasked with achieving sales targets, forecasting, and building compelling commercial deals, as well as communicating with internal and external stakeholders to provide market-leading services. The role involves presenting solutions, identifying product gaps, and collaborating with teams to meet deadlines and deliver exceptional results. A successful candidate will have a track record of winning new business through agency engagement and experience in digital, data, analytics or programmatic sales.
Must have:
  • Experience in agency or media owner at a senior level in this region
  • Track record in delivering new business winning proposals through agency engagement
  • Experience presenting to programmatic/analytics to middle and senior agency personnel in both Japanese and English
  • Strong relationships/access across a broad set of agencies in this region
  • Experience in digital, data, analytics or programmatic industry in a sales role
Good to have:
  • Strong relationships with direct clients would be preferable, but not essential
  • Programmatic/analytics led solutions experience would be preferable, but not essential
  • Proven experience of consistently delivering revenue targets
  • Proven experience in building, developing and leading a team would be preferable but not essential

Job Details

Role: Senior Agency Director, Japan

Reports to: Commercial Director - SEA

Location: Tokyo, Japan

 

What you’ll do

We’re MiQ, a programmatic media partner for marketers and agencies. We’re experts in data science, analytics and programmatic trading, and we’re always ready to react and solve challenges quickly, to make sure our clients are always spending their media investments on the right things in the right places.

This role will support the growth of revenue in our JAPAC business, across agencies and client partnerships in Japan. The successful candidate will be required to lead and deliver the strategy for this region, which centres around our innovative programmatic products and solutions. Hunger to solve challenges, you will be tasked with the end-to-end commercial delivery of MiQ’s products to scope out and win new business.

Success will require proactive and strategic approaches to new clients in Japan whilst also looking at ways to leverage global relationships we have in place with holding companies. Offering seamlessly connected thinking and innovative proposals, that maximise MiQ’s capabilities. You will be equally comfortable presenting a complicated solution to all seniority levels. You will be required to work closely with the JAPAC Executive Team and Global Commercial Team. Forecasting and delivering numbers and leading the strategic accounts initiative across this region. This role will play a key part in our growth strategy for JAPAC where it is our ambition to be MiQs second biggest region by the end of 2026.

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

Delivering Numbers

  • Consistently achieve regional/personal sales targets, delivering business updates from your patch.
  • Responsible for pulling together a forecast each quarter for your patch of business, feeding into the overall SEA and JAPAC forecast/budget. 
  • Confident proposing, building, and delivering compelling commercial deals for clients

Strategy

  • Create, lead and implement your strategy for Tokyo in collaboration with the Commercial Director, SEA and Global Commercial Team.
  • Define a clear In-Out (Outbound) narrative for Japanese clients looking to run activity globally, leveraging MiQs global capabilities, technology and data partnerships
  • Establish clear project scope, understanding the brief/solution requirements and managing key milestones to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Work closely with the solutions team to develop innovative, bespoke solutions to unlock opportunities across key accounts

Communication

  • Develop, maintain and manage relationships within agencies through a strong and constructive relationship, built on trust.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other departments within the business – Client Services, Trading, Strategy, Product and Solutions to ensure we deliver the best in market service for our clients.
  • Identify product gaps and partnership opportunities to fill these

Persuading and Influencing

  • Own the relationships with the agency teams, Client Partners, Clients leads, Business and Comms Directors
  • Use excellent written communication to build award-winning solutions and presentations, which impact business decisions and answer business challenges.

Product knowledge

  • Through proactive planning and collaboration, construct a simplified but engaging narrative via great storytelling, technical explanation and proposal articulation.
  • Proactively uncover and identify business wide or media challenges, which can be addressed or solved via MiQ’s innovative products and solutions.
  • Curate, innovate and articulate an end-to-end programmatic solution from briefing stage to delivery effectively.

 

What you’ll bring 

  • Experience working within an agency or media owner at a senior level within this specific region
  • Track record in delivering new business winning proposals through agency engagement.
  • Experience in presenting to programmatic/analytics to middle and senior agency personnel in both Japanese and English
  • Strong relationships/access across a broad set of agencies in this region.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • The ability to interpret and analyse statistical data to maximise selling opportunities, monitor competitive activity and provide regular progress reports
  • Precise and market-leading presentation skills are paramount to this role.
  • Experience in building narratives, developing into exciting story-telling and clear proposals.
  • Natural flair and desire to build relationships at all levels externally, primarily with client partners and Group Account Directors within agencies.
  • Strategic thinking around data and product diversification across new target accounts.
  • Professional, focused and inquisitive attitude, able to challenge internally and externally.
  • Ambition to establish, scale and grow, both individually and as a team our SOV in Japan
